WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS:
Bulletin Notice
On Good Shepherd Sunday, April 21, 2024, the Church celebrates the 61st Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The purpose of this Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Pope Francis has invited us all "on this day in particular, but also in the ordinary pastoral life of our communities, I ask the Church to continue to promote vocations. May she touch the hearts of the faithful and enable each of them to discover with gratitude God’s call in their lives, to find courage to say 'yes' to God." Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for vocations to the priesthood and religious life? Pray for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister. Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God’s call. We are especially grateful for our Bishop Terry LaValley, priests, deacons and consecrated men and women who are serving in the Diocese of Ogdensburg.

GREEN APPLE CHALLENGE: A Different Approach to the Green Apple Recognition
Dear Teachers, Catechists, Confirmation Teachers, Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers,
Just a reminder that the Pope Francis Green Apple Recognition submission is due on April 30.
If you have not already been doing something with your students, what if, this year instead of adding one more thing to your already demanding schedule, you combined a project with students, families and your parish that would be an intergenerational combined effort to make a different for a better future for all?
This year’s Earth Day (April 22) theme is: Planet vs Plastic. What if this year, you focused on simple ways to reduce, repurpose, recycle plastics? Check the Earth Day theme 2024 web page for ideas to get involved. Here are a couple of suggestions
1- Ask the students to share what they are already doing at home or with a group (Scouts, FFA, etc.) summary and submit on Green Apple Registration Form.
2 - Register for the PLASTIC CHALLENGE “RECYCLE BEYOND the BAG” sponsored by trex.com/recycling 1-800-Buy-Trex
They will send you free bins, posters, etc. and give you one year to collect 1,000 lbs. of household bags and wraps of plastics. Then, you a receive a free earth-friendly composite bench. Check with you pastor, ask if the students can announce it and place a collection bin in the Church. Submit the Form below stating that you have registered for the Challenge. One school and one religious education program is already involved! You have a whole year to complete the Challenge!!!

GRANT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITES: Att: Pastors
The Diocese of Ogdensburg annually offers two grants of $5,000 each to assist the parishes and institutions of the Diocese in providing assistance for people with disabilities.
These funds are made available from the annual contribution of the New York State Knights of Columbus to the Diocese of Ogdensburg. They will be distributed by the diocese on the recommendations of Catholic Charities and the Department of Education.
The criteria for acceptability of the request cover several factors. Improvement in already existing programs or facilities will be considered. Some ideas for funding include: adapting facilities, special equipment, training for personnel, and program development.
It is important to remember that programs which have received funding previously may not apply for the grant for the following three years. Programs/projects must show proof of additional sources of revenue to support the programs/projects.

Applications must be submitted by May 17, 2024. Monies will be allocated by mid-June 2024.

The Diocese of Ogdensburg Vocation Society (DOVS) is having a Raffle from April 21 to June 20 to support promoting the culture of vocations in the diocese. LEARN TO DISCERN: Virtual Friendship Group Meeting
Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. We will be blessed to have Father Leland Thorpe, OMV talk with us about the first half (Chapters 1 - 7) of "Discernment of Spirits in Marriage," by Father Tim Gallagher, OMV, and answer your questions.

One in 40 infants under 1 year old are victimized by abuse every year. Child abuse can be fatal. It is estimated that 1,750 children in the United States die each year from abuse and neglect. SURVIVING DIVORCE: Plattsburgh area
The Family Life Office will be offering the Surviving Divorce program again at the Newman Center in Plattsburgh on Thursday evenings from April 4th to June 20th. Surviving Divorce features twelve video presentations that cover topics such as shock and grief, anger and forgiveness, money issues, dealing with children and a former spouse, and annulment and remarriage. This program is for the newly separated and divorced and those still struggling with issues many years later. What is First Saturday Devotion? First Saturday Devotions require a commitment to do the same requirements each time over five consecutive months as requested by our Blessed Mother at Fatima. The requirements for each of the First Saturdays selected are... To receive Holy Communion in a state of grace; To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) preferably on that Saturday, but at least within eight days prior or eight days following the First Saturday indicating that it is being done as part of First Saturday Devotions for Reparation; To recite five decades of the Holy Rosary and meditate beyond the recitation for 15 minutes on one or all of the mysteries.
Why commit to this particular devotion? It is undertaken because the children who met with Mary at Fatima were instructed many times that this was important. It can be difficult, because it involves a sacrifice of time and possibly current priorities or even certain religious beliefs.
Why is this important? Mary indicated that she herself has been and is wounded and hurt by the indifference, insults, even blasphemy hurled at her, sometimes by those who believe they love her Son. She asks that those who wish to make this sacrifice do so with the specific stated intention of "making reparation for the sins committed against my Immaculate Heart."
Where can we join others to worship and make this reparation? Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is, to the best of our knowledge, the only site in the North Country area which currently offers First Saturday Devotions with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. We invite you to join us on any First Saturday for this act of reparation in the warmth and love of this very special place of prayer and worship…and then return for the additional months! Mary promises that it makes a world of difference in our lives and in our world.

Divine Mercy Sunday Program
The Feast of the Divine Mercy will be on April 7, at St. Hedwig's Church with Father Decker and Father Severinus Torwoe as Celebrants. At 2 p.m. the program will start with the singing of O’ Salutaris and Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament, At 3 p.m. Adoration will be continued, Blessing of Holy Cards and Petitions, Homily, the Chaplet, Benediction and Veneration of the Divine Mercy Image. SISTER OF ST. JOSEPHS FOUNDATION: Grant Application Cycle Now Open
In the spirit of its charism, the Sisters of St. Joseph Foundation supports initiatives that foster service to the 'dear neighbor.' Its goal is to assist in developing leadership and advancing initiatives related to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in diocesan, parish, and church related programs in the North Country. Applicants must be currently active in a leadership role in a diocesan parish or established program or be in training for such leadership and be sponsored by the director of the program. Applications may be submitted February 1 through April 24, 2024. Grants will be a maximum of $4,000. Recipients will be notified in June. ORGAN CONCERT: German organist and composer Paul Fey journeys to Ogdensburg as part of his 2024 U.S. Tour
Internationally acclaimed artist, Paul Fey, will play a concert at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg on April 24 at 7 p.m.. The program titled "Music from Leipzig," includes composers who have lived and worked in Leipzig, Germany, starting with the famous J.S. Bach and continuing through the centuries, including works by the artist himself.
Paul Fey is a very popular performer on YouTube where his channel currently has almost 50,000 subscribers. He is also a prolific composer whose works have been played in concerts and services as well as online by organists around the world. We will hear his "Fantasie on Simple Gifts," along with works by Bach, Kuhnau, and Mendelssohn. His program will feature well-known works alongside lesser-known but very exciting pieces, including a dramatic reading and musical commentary on "The Battle of David and Goliath"! The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg is seeking a Facilities Director for Guggenheim Center for Religious Programs who will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the camp facilities including building and grounds. Candidates should possess basic maintenance knowledge and skills including painting, carpentry and some plumbing and electrical. Candidates must be self-directing, have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others. The position is seasonal from May to October. Weekly hours vary with need.
