The Summer Camp Guggenheim Mission:

Camp Guggenheim seeks to be a source of hospitality, vitality, and evangelization in the life of the Young Church of today.  Programs are built around the celebration of liturgy and are designed to enable young people to build community as they grow in faith.  Creativity, fun, wholesome adventure, and a sense of each individual's giftedness, are cultivated in this environment where safety is a priority.  Staff members strive to teach by example as they "walk with" young people.  Life in this dynamic faith community enthusiastically welcomes young people to participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic Church.

Summer Camp at Camp Guggenheim is a Diocesan Youth Ministry Department program in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg.

What does a typical day look like?

Campers spend their mornings in one of the four main program areas: Liturgy, Waterfront, Arts & Crafts, and Project Adventure. Campers rotate through the programs, so by the end of the week, each camper will have experienced each program.

After an energetic song practice, lunch, and some quiet time and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, afternoon finds some campers climbing an Adirondack Peak, while others explore Lower Saranac Lake in our kayaks. Those looking for artistic opportunities might be found creating something in arts & crafts or dancing away. Activities such as soccer, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, and basketball are among the options for those looking for athletic involvement. Older campers have opportunities to go rappelling or to plan for an overnight camping excursion.

Everyone eventually gathers for beach time and a bit of lounging in the sun. Swimming and water volleyball are the favorites of many, while others choose to soak up some Adirondack sun on the beach. Kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats are also available for use. All waterfront activities occur under the watchful eye of our American Red Cross certified lifeguards.

Evening events at Camp Guggenheim include the Guggenheim Olympics, a campfire, creative adventure games, a variety show, and a dance. Special liturgies including Wednesday evening's Reconciliation service and Thursday evening's celebration of Mass are also favorites.Laughter, song, prayer, and friendship are a huge part of our entire day!
