POPE LEO'S PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH: To be said in October

The Committee for the Consecration of the Diocese to St. Joseph recommends including this prayer at the end of the rosary during the month of October.

Prayer of Pope Leo XIII
(To be said at the end of the rosary: Pope Leo asked that it be added to the end of the Rosary, especially during the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary.)

To you, O blessed Joseph,
do we come in our tribulation,
and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse,
we confidently invoke your patronage also.

Through that charity which bound you
to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God
and through the paternal love
with which you embraced the Child Jesus,
we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance
which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood,
and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family,
defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving father, ward off from us
every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be kind to us
and from heaven assist us in our struggle
with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril,
so now protect God's Holy Church
from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity;
shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection,
so that, supported by your example and your aid,
we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness,
and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven.
Amen.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know?

Did you know…as a parent, your main concern is to protect your child/teen. The best way to do that is to stay active and involved in their life to assess any risks they may be facing, and to educate and empower them to protect themselves. Ongoing conversations, rather than one “big talk”, about tough and sensitive topics are a great way to do that. If your child/teen is asking about an issue, answer them honestly and provide safety knowledge to educate and satisfy their request, but avoid giving too much information, or information that is too developmentally advanced.

PLANNED GIVING: Give Your House and Continue to Live There

You may want to make a major gift to our parish.  Why not consider real estate?  This is called a life estate gift.  This simply means that you give a piece of real estate, such as your residence, to our parish, obtain a charitable income tax deduction and retain the right to live there as long as you want.  This arrangement removes the property from you estate and relieves your executor from having to dispose of your home at your death. Contact Scott Lalone at the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org  for further information.

There are a variety of programs available to give you technical and/or financial assistance. You can even save money!

A Simple Act to Protect Creation: VOTE. Try to become knowledgeable about the positions/plans that candidates for office have to improve the environment; factor those positions into how you vote. Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.

AMEN.

MONTH OF OCTOBER

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH: Resources to promote family peace

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Even before the added stress and isolation of COVID-19, one in four women and one in nine men experienced severe intimate partner physical violence, as reported by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Domestic abuse and violence refer to the physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse including teen relationships.

Faith communities are called to offer hope, help, and healing to all harmed by domestic abuse and violence. We must learn to recognize domestic abuse, respond with compassion, and refer people to the proper services that are prepared to help them.

Catholics for Family Peace Education and Research on Domestic Abuse is offering ways to promote family peace, respond to domestic abuse, promote prayer for families and provide resources. To learn more, please visit www.catholicsforfamilypeace.org
