eNOTES is a biweekly diocesan newsletter which is sent to the following distribution lists: all priests, diocesan staff, deacons, deacon candidates, bookkeepers and secretaries, catechetical leaders, principals, commissioned lay ministers, diocesan finance council, diocesan pastoral council, and pastoral associates and seminarians. NEW  

MASS FOR A SYNODAL CHURCH: Communion, Participation and Mission

In 2022, we will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Ogdensburg.  It will be a time to look back and appreciate all that the Holy Spirit has accomplished in the Church here in the North Country.

As we celebrate our history, the Holy Father has also asked us to look to the future. In May, Pope Francis called for a Synod to see what the Holy Spirit is doing in the Church, the body of Christ today, including here in our diocese.

The purpose of a synod is to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church through the faithful: bishops, priest, deacons, religious, laity, young and old, those at the center of the faith and those on the periphery. As baptized Catholics, we have all received the Holy Spirit and, therefore, are all called to share our gifts with the Church so that we may discern the path ahead. Let us listen to the Holy Spirit and listen to each other.

Pope Francis will open the worldwide Synodal process with a Papal Mass on October 10. Bishop Terry R. LaValley will celebrate the opening Mass of the Diocesan phase of the Synod on October 17 at 11am at St. Mary's Cathedral.  All are welcome. 

As part of our participation in the synod, there will be future opportunities for people to share the fruits of their personal prayer and reflection on how the Holy Spirit is moving in our diocese, in our parishes and in our people.

Description: Through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, the Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg will Ordain to the Order of Deacon: Mr. James P. Carlin and Mr. Leagon J. Carlin on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Church, 114 Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, New York.

You are cordially invited to join us at the Ordination Mass. The Ordination Mass will also be livestreamed at www.rcdony.org/ordination. Please note this may be subject to change due to COVID-19

On October 24, 2021 we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious, and lay leaders serve the world's most vulnerable communities. Please keep the Pope's missions in your prayers and be generous in the upcoming collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
