USCCB SURVEY ON LAY ECCLESIAL MINISTRY: Attention All Lay Persons Engaged In Ministry In The Church

The USCCB would like to learn more about the realities facing lay ecclesial ministers across the country. To achieve that, the USCCB has created a survey that any and all lay leaders are invited to fill out:   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M6FH8BH

The purpose of this survey is to get a snapshot of the current landscape of lay ecclesial ministry in the Church in the U.S today; to hear how the pandemic has affected them; to understand the impact of the bishops’ document on lay ecclesial ministry, Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord; and to ask how the USCCB can support and advocate for lay ecclesial ministers throughout the United States, most especially at this uncertain time.

The deadline for filling out the survey is December 15, 2020. Thank you in advance for passing this survey to any lay person engaged in ministry in the Church.

PLANNED GIVING: Buy a New Life Insurance Policy

Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by taking out a life insurance policy and name our parish, Catholic school, the Diocese, a Mission Project of the Diocese or a Ministry/Program of the Diocese as beneficiary.  If you name any of the above as owner and beneficiary, the premiums you pay will be deductible on your income tax.  It’s a way to make a large gift on the “installment plan.”

Contact Scott Lalone at the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org  for further information.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the October 31/November 1 Bulletin)

Re-think how you travel. The travel restrictions that Covid-19 caused provided us with an opportunity to see how less travel affected the quality of our air and lessoned carbon pollution. Are there changes this restrictions caused that can become part of your daily routine as a responsible environmental steward?

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.

AMEN.

ONGOING THORUGH OCTOBER

POPE LEO'S PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH: To be said in October

The Committee for the Consecration of the Diocese to St. Joseph recommends including this prayer at the end of the rosary during the month of October.

Prayer of Pope Leo XIII
(To be said at the end of the rosary: Pope Leo asked that it be added to the end of the Rosary, especially during the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary.)

To you, O blessed Joseph,
do we come in our tribulation,
and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse,
we confidently invoke your patronage also.

Through that charity which bound you
to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God
and through the paternal love
with which you embraced the Child Jesus,
we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance
which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood,
and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family,
defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving father, ward off from us
every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be kind to us
and from heaven assist us in our struggle
with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril,
so now protect God's Holy Church
from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity;
shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection,
so that, supported by your example and your aid,
we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness,
and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven.
Amen.

MONTH OF OCTOBER

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH: Resources to promote family peace

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Even before the added stress and isolation of COVID-19, one in four women and one in nine men experienced severe intimate partner physical violence, as reported by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Domestic abuse and violence refer to the physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse including teen relationships.

Faith communities are called to offer hope, help, and healing to all harmed by domestic abuse and violence. We must learn to recognize domestic abuse, respond with compassion, and refer people to the proper services that are prepared to help them.

Catholics for Family Peace Education and Research on Domestic Abuse is offering ways to promote family peace, respond to domestic abuse, promote prayer for families and provide resources. To learn more, please visit www.catholicsforfamilypeace.org
