BLACK AND INDIAN MISSION COLLECTION: November 21-22, 2020

Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African American, Native American, and Alaskan Native people of God.

Recognizing a need to call the faithful to support missionary work among African American and Native American Catholics, the U.S. Catholic bishops established this Catholic Church charity for the Catholic Missions in 1884 to administer a national collection—the first of its kind in the United States—to support missionary work.

Ever since the first Collection in 1884, the national Black and Indian Mission Collection has  reflected the generosity of the good People of God and has enabled the Commission to give helpful grants to dioceses across the country to operate schools, parishes, and other missionary services that build the Body of Christ in Native American, Alaska Native, and Black Catholic communities.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg provides collection and distribution support for Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build up the Church and faith formation in African American, Native American and Alaska native communities throughout the United States.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know?

Did you know… neglect is the most common form of abuse in the U.S. followed by physical, and then sexual abuse. Neglect occurs when a child is deprived of, or is allowed to be deprived of, necessary food, clothing, shelter, or medical treatment, or a child is permitted to live in an environment when such deprivation or environment causes the child’s physical, mental, or emotional health to be significantly impaired.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the November 14/15 Bulletin)

Got Mice?  It is the season of the year when the mice are looking for a warm winter home. Have they found a way into your home? If so, here is a tip that might discourage them from taking up residence in your place.  Purchase a small container of peppermint oil, place several drops on cotton balls and distribute them anywhere you think they may be coming in.  Renew as often as needed. Then, pray to  St. Francis that they find a suitable home outside in the natural world!

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the November 21/22 Bulletin)

Make Thanksgiving Day every day!  In Laudato Si Pope Francis makes one specific request of all of us: to say a prayer of thanks before and after each meal. "This moment of blessing, however brief, reminds us of our dependence on God for Life; it strengthens our gratitude for the gifts of creation; it acknowledges those who by their labors provide us with those goods; and reaffirms our solidarity with those in greatest need."

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.

AMEN.

USCCB SURVEY ON LAY ECCLESIAL MINISTRY: Attention All Lay Persons Engaged In Ministry In The Church

The USCCB would like to learn more about the realities facing lay ecclesial ministers across the country. To achieve that, the USCCB has created a survey that any and all lay leaders are invited to fill out:   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M6FH8BH

The purpose of this survey is to get a snapshot of the current landscape of lay ecclesial ministry in the Church in the U.S today; to hear how the pandemic has affected them; to understand the impact of the bishops’ document on lay ecclesial ministry, Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord; and to ask how the USCCB can support and advocate for lay ecclesial ministers throughout the United States, most especially at this uncertain time.

The deadline for filling out the survey is December 15, 2020. Thank you in advance for passing this survey to any lay person engaged in ministry in the Church.
