SEEKING HOUSE DIRECTOR AND COMMUNITY: Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer

Have you ever wished you could live in community with others who love God…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Are you someone who loves Mary, are excited by the lives of the Saints, who knows that building the Kingdom means now but are not quite sure how you are called? Are you someone who is gentle and trustworthy, not given to addictions or vice, hard-working and still active…someone who trusts God in all things, is wise in the things that are important, and takes great joy in the Roman Catholic faith? Perhaps you or someone you know would be a good resident at Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer, located in Ellenburg Center, NY. Or perhaps you are already part of a small community which is looking for a home and a mission. Come and visit us and see if the contemplative-active life is for you. A word of caution... the House of Prayer is very rural and isolated especially in the winter. As of the present moment, there is no community living there, but the Board of Directors is actively looking for 3-5 people, including a House Director, to live on its premises and help keep this Marian treasure vibrant within the North Country for all. Please call 518-534-9976 (Sarah) or 518-518-578-6949 (Jeanette) for more information.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the May 29/30 Bulletin

What could Trinity Sunday have to teach each us about responsible environmental stewardship? Perhaps the most profound yet self-evident message about Trinity is that all life is about relationship. “Everything is interconnected, and that genuine care for our own lives and relationship with nature is inseparable.”(Laudato Si) When we eat earth-healthy food, get proper rest, exercise both our bodies and minds, fill our spirit with prayer, then we are taking care of God’s creation. Spend some time with the Lord today about what this feast says to you about stewardship.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the June 5/6 Bulletin

The celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi touches every aspect of our lives. Is it a wonder that Jesus chose to use bread, the staff of life, to symbolize His desire to be intimately connected with us through the sacrament of Eucharist? “The Eucharist is …a source of light and motivation for our concerns for the environment, directing us to be stewards of all creation.” (Laudato Si) Care for our health and care for the health of our planet are intricately connected. Heart doctor, Dr. Gerry Gacioch from Rochester General Hospital says, “Whatever is good for your health is good for the earth.” It is all connected!

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.

AMEN.

CAMP GUGGENHEIM - SUMMER PAUSE: A Message from the Office of Youth Ministry

After much discernment, discussion, and most importantly prayer, the decision has been made not to operate Summer Camp Guggenheim in 2021. Adherence to the NYS Dept. of Health requirements as well as thoughtful consideration for all of our campers and their families, counselors, staff, Pastors, and their health and safety all contributed in making this decision. Although we pray for the end to this Pandemic, we must remain vigilant.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support as we strive to continue the mission and traditions of our summer camp program in the days to come. For more information, contact Tom Semeraro, Director of Youth Ministry, tsemeraro@rcdony.org

GRANT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES:

The Diocese of Ogdensburg annually offers two grants of $5,000.00 each to assist the parishes and institutions of the Diocese in providing assistance for people with disabilities.

These funds are made available from the annual contribution of the New York State Knights of Columbus to the Diocese of Ogdensburg. They will be distributed by the diocese on the recommendations of Catholic Charities and the Department of Education.

The criteria for acceptability of the request cover several factors. Improvement in already existing programs or facilities will be considered. Some ideas for funding include: adapting facilities, special equipment, training for personnel, and program development.

It is important to remember that programs which have received funding previously may not apply for the grant for the following three years.  Programs/projects must show proof of additional sources of revenue to support the programs/projects.

If you wish to be considered for a grant, please plan your proposal carefully. The grant application may be downloaded HERE

Applications must be submitted by May 21, 2021. Monies will be allocated by mid-June 2021.

If you have any questions regarding the grant and/or the application, please contact vlalonde@rcdony.org or call (315) 393-2920 ext. 1411.
