VIRTUAL FRIENDSHIP GROUP: Next meeting March 21

Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

We will be blessed to have Father Craig MacMahon, OMV return to talk with us about the second half (Chapter 13 - conclusion) of "Struggles in the Spiritual Life," by Father Tim Gallagher, OMV and answer your questions.
If you weren't able to make it to the last meeting, there is still time to order the book and catch up on the reading at sophiainstitute.com (When you enter Friendship25 at the checkout, you will receive 25% off your order.)
This powerful, life-changing book will help you understand and conquer the struggles you face in your spiritual life.
All of us encounter valleys on our journey with the Lord - those periods of spiritual desolation that are a painful yet unavoidable feature of our prayer life. Understanding what is happening and responding to it properly are critical to reaching the heights of holiness.

With warmth and understanding, Father Gallagher carefully identifies in this book the various forms of spiritual and nonspiritual desolation and supplies the remedy for each.
You'll also learn the forms of spiritual dryness and of the Dark Night - and how to respond to them.

In chapter after chapter, Father Gallagher presents a particular struggle as experienced by fictional characters and then provides the advice he gives to those who come to him for spiritual direction about that struggle. You'll gain confidence as you journey through desolation, and you'll learn to reject the enemy's ploys to infect you with a sense of hopelessness. You'll also learn:

*What to do when you are tired, burned out, or overwhelmed by life
*How to respond when you feel burdened or confused in prayer
*What it means when the enemy causes a disturbance in your soul
*Spiritual tactics to employ when you are experiencing struggles
*What to do when you experience disquiet from worldly agitations and temptations
*How to push back when the enemy threatens your confidence in God and His work in your life

If you haven't signed up for the Friendship Groups, you can join here: https://mailchi.mp/sophiainstitute/friendship-groups
Once you have signed up, you will receive updates, including the Zoom link and discussion questions, about a week prior to the meeting.

Through it, we encounter God in the most intimate way possible as we hear him speak to us in the Liturgy of the Word and as we receive him Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. In his video-based study A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, Dr. Edward Sri explores the roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. This fascinating tour of the Mass will renew your faith and deepen your love for and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.

LENT, SEASON OF TRANSFORMATION: Holy Cross Parish Presents, Season of Transformation.

Dates: Feb 26, Mar 4, 11 and 18; Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Emmaus Room at St. Peter’s Church

Dates: Feb. 28, Mar 6, 13 and 20; Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Emmaus Room at St. Peter's Church

During Lent, we strive to free ourselves from all kinds of clutter-material and spiritual-in order to focus on God and turn back to him with our whole hearts. If this "turning back" is genuine, it will be a reorientation, a transformation. To help us enter into this season, Amy Ekeh guides readers in exploring three key moments in the life and ministry of Jesus. The result will be a better understanding of the authentic transformation that God calls each of us to embrace as individuals and as a community and a renewed desire to live God's own outward-looking, self-emptying, laying-down-one's-life kind of love.

Please register for the day or evening session to: plattburghsec@rcdony.org or call the Parish Office at 518-563-0730. Suggested donation for study guide is $5.00.

FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTIONS: Every First Saturday, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. (next first Saturday, April 6)

(Weather permitting. Please feel free to join us earlier, beginning at 8:30 a.m. for private prayers and recollection)
Our Lady of the Adirondack House of Prayer
7270 Star Road
Ellenburg Ctr, NY
Call Sarah at 518-534-9976 for directions or more information.

What is First Saturday Devotion? First Saturday Devotions require a commitment to do the same requirements each time over five consecutive months as requested by our Blessed Mother at Fatima. The requirements for each of the First Saturdays selected are... To receive Holy Communion in a state of grace; To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) preferably on that Saturday, but at least within eight days prior or eight days following the First Saturday indicating that it is being done as part of First Saturday Devotions for Reparation; To recite five decades of the Holy Rosary and meditate beyond the recitation for 15 minutes on one or all of the mysteries.

Why commit to this particular devotion? It is undertaken because the children who met with Mary at Fatima were instructed many times that this was important. It can be difficult, because it involves a sacrifice of time and possibly current priorities or even certain religious beliefs.

Why is this important? Mary indicated that she herself has been and is wounded and hurt by the indifference, insults, even blasphemy hurled at her, sometimes by those who believe they love her Son. She asks that those who wish to make this sacrifice do so with the specific stated intention of "making reparation for the sins committed against my Immaculate Heart."

Where can we join others to worship and make this reparation? Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is, to the best of our knowledge, the only site in the North Country area which currently offers First Saturday Devotions with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. We invite you to join us on any First Saturday for this act of reparation in the warmth and love of this very special place of prayer and worship…and then return for the additional months! Mary promises that it makes a world of difference in our lives and in our world.
