ANNULMENT PROCESS WORKSHOPS: Free, open to the public, September 12, 14 and 19

ANNOUNCEMENT:
THE TRIBUNAL OFFICE WILL BE HOLDING FREE WORKSHOPS ON THE ANNULMENT PROCESS ON SEPTEMBER 12, 14 AND 19, 2022 IN THE DIOCESE OF OGDENSBURG AT 5 SEPARATE LOCATIONS
HOSTED BY JUDICIAL VICAR, REVEREND GARRY B. GIROUX, JCL AND ADJUTANT JUDICIAL VICAR, REVEREND JOSEPH W. GIROUX, JCL

The Annulment Process: What? Why? How?

Not all marriages make it “. . . until death do us part.” Often, following a civil decree of divorce many Catholics desire to marry again. If their first wedding was celebrated according to the norms of the Church, then unless an annulment of that first union is granted, Catholics are not free to celebrate a subsequent marriage in the Church.

The annulment process is a careful examination of the situations of both former spouses leading up to and following the celebration of the wedding. The purpose of this careful examination is to determine if there was anything present, both before and at the time of the wedding which could have invalidated the bond of marriage. If this is found to be the case, then an annulment is granted.

The Diocesan Tribunal will offer five [5] regional workshops on the annulment process to provide both information and an opportunity to ask questions. The public is most welcome.

The workshops will be held at the following places:

Monday, September 12 @ 6:30pm

• Holy Name Parish, AuSable Forks, NY
• St. James Parish, Carthage, NY

Wednesday, September 14 @ 6:30pm

• St. Patrick’s Parish, Chateaugay, NY

Monday, September 19 @ 6:30pm

• St. Henry’s Parish, Long Lake, NY
• St. Mary’s Parish, Canton, NY

**No registration required and there is no charge to attend

CURSILLO WEEKENDS FOR MEN AND WOMEN: Apply Now.

Men's Weekend: October 27-30
Women's Weekend: November 17-20

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with self, Christ and others. It is three days of joyful living and sharing, experiencing and learning a simple method to know God better and develop more fully as a Christian. The purpose of the weekend is to provide the tools for daily Christian living. Cursillo begins on a Thursday evening and ends Sunday evening.

During the three days, participants hear talks given by priests, deacons and lay persons, and may participate in discussion with others in small groups. The Eucharist is celebrated each day, and there is time for personal prayer and reflection, Sacrament of Reconciliation and fellowship. The weekend reviews the basics of Catholic faith with an emphasis on how you may live it more effectively in your own life.

Since each person’s circumstances in life are different and each has a unique relationship with God, the Cursillo weekend is a deeply personal experience and, as such, can’t be fully described. It must be lived and experienced first-hand to appreciate.

For more information or to download the application: https://www.rcdony.org/evangelization/cursillo.html
If you have questions, or would like to be sponsored, please contact Michael Neaton, the pre-cursillo coordinator at neatonmichael@yahoo.com

PLANNED GIVING: Memorare Legacy Society

Have you already or have been thinking about leaving a legacy by designating a portion of your assets to pass at death to the Diocese of Ogdensburg, your parish or school or diocesan program or organization? The Memorare Legacy Society honors and recognizes the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to leave a legacy to the Diocese of Ogdensburg through estate or deferred gifts. Members of this society are those who have informed the Diocese of a planned gift that, in the future, will benefit the Diocese of Ogdensburg or any of its parishes or programs. This ensures a continuous commitment of care to their Church, to the Church’s vision and to the charitable works that flow from her missions through their thoughtful planned gift. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Creation Care Tips

for the September 17/18 Bulletin

A way to participate and celebrate this Season:
Thank God for His Wonderful Handwork. Say a short payer of thanksgiving for the life-giving food that sustains and nourished before and after a meal. Consider how all nourishment ultimately comes from the earth and includes the work of human hands that help to bring it to our tables. This ‘‘moment of blessing, however brief, reminds us of our dependence on God for life.” (Laudato Si #227)

VATICAN RELEASES NEW E-BOOK FOR YOUTH: "Keys to Bioethics" 22 Page Manual

The Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life has released Keys to Bioethics: A Manual for Youth, a free e-book prepared by the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation. “With this Manual we wish to offer young people around the world a practical and up-to-date tool to answer some of the questions that clutter their minds when faced with the great challenges generated by scientific and technological progress,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Dicastery’s prefect.

The Manual states that human life begins at fertilization and that IUDs, RU-486, and the morning-after pill can induce abortions—and that the regular birth control pill can have an abortifacient effect. Other topics covered include the contraceptive mentality, genetic screening, reproductive technology, eugenics, stem-cell research, euthanasia, organ donation, and gender. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY: All pastors, catechists, principals

On September 25 is Priesthood Sunday. Let us celebrate the gift of _______________our Pastor and ______________our Parochial Vicar with prayer and praising God for their courage and their generosity. Please take a moment to pick up a Spiritual Bouquet, which is an offering of prayer for one or both of our priests. Let us show our priests our encouragement and gratitude in thoughts and deeds. God bless our priests. Let us continue to pray for more vocations to the priesthood. Here are some activities:

1. Have a set of Thank You cards and give one to each major group with the parish. Collect them and then give your pastor/priests a basket of cards with treats.

2. Encourage the parishioners to pray for your pastor/priest. A beautiful way to pray for priests is to pray the Rosary.

  • Pray the first decade of the rosary for the priests who baptized you.
  • Pray the second decade for the priest who heard your first confession and gave you first communion.
  • Pray the third decade for the bishop who confirmed you.
  • Pray the fourth decade for the priest who witnessed your marriage vows
  • Pray fhe fifth decade for the priest who will give you the Anointing of the Sick.

3. Coordinate a parish luck supper to celebrate Priesthood Sunday.

4. Make a collage of pictures of your priest/priests in your parish and all the activities they do for the parish
