ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Creation Care Tips

for the October 1/2 Bulletin

This coming Tuesday, Oct. 4, is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi and the final day of the Season of Creation. Since all entities in the universe were formed by the same heavenly Father, St. Francis recognized that everything in nature must be our brothers and sisters in creation. The Creator made it so that all of creation is interconnected and interdependent. This is why harming one of God’s creatures, regardless of how small or insignificant, can eventually impact all other entities in some way. It is for this reason that we are called to care for what God has made and limit the harm we inflict on everything around us. It is also because of this that we should pray for wisdom to use the resources of the planet carefully, try to protect the most vulnerable, and seek forgiveness for the harm that we have done.

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Creation Care Tips

for the October 8/9 Bulletin

During this harvest season, the bounty of food with which we are blessed often becomes evident by the excess that is thrown out. In an attempt to limit the food wastes that so often occur in our daily lives, it is wise to plan more conservatively portion sizes for meals and snacks. As a society, we throw away far more left-overs and unused food items than is available to many people across the globe. Acquiring excess food places a strain on garbage facilities and composting operations. During this Season of Creation, let’s strive to create a healthier body for ourselves and a more vibrant environment in which to live.

VATICAN RELEASES NEW E-BOOK FOR YOUTH: "Keys to Bioethics" 22 Page Manual

The Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life has released Keys to Bioethics: A Manual for Youth, a free e-book prepared by the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation. “With this Manual we wish to offer young people around the world a practical and up-to-date tool to answer some of the questions that clutter their minds when faced with the great challenges generated by scientific and technological progress,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Dicastery’s prefect.

The Manual states that human life begins at fertilization and that IUDs, RU-486, and the morning-after pill can induce abortions—and that the regular birth control pill can have an abortifacient effect. Other topics covered include the contraceptive mentality, genetic screening, reproductive technology, eugenics, stem-cell research, euthanasia, organ donation, and gender. CURSILLO WEEKENDS FOR MEN AND WOMEN: Apply Now.

Men's Weekend: October 27-30
Women's Weekend: November 17-20

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with self, Christ and others. It is three days of joyful living and sharing, experiencing and learning a simple method to know God better and develop more fully as a Christian. The purpose of the weekend is to provide the tools for daily Christian living. Cursillo begins on a Thursday evening and ends Sunday evening.

During the three days, participants hear talks given by priests, deacons and lay persons, and may participate in discussion with others in small groups. The Eucharist is celebrated each day, and there is time for personal prayer and reflection, Sacrament of Reconciliation and fellowship. The weekend reviews the basics of Catholic faith with an emphasis on how you may live it more effectively in your own life.

Since each person’s circumstances in life are different and each has a unique relationship with God, the Cursillo weekend is a deeply personal experience and, as such, can’t be fully described. It must be lived and experienced first-hand to appreciate.

For more information or to download the application: https://www.rcdony.org/evangelization/cursillo.html
If you have questions, or would like to be sponsored, please contact Michael Neaton, the pre-cursillo coordinator at neatonmichael@yahoo.com
