BLACK AND INDIAN MISSION COLLECTION: November 20-21, 2021
Catholic Charities Announces an important second collection
Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African American, Native American, and Alaska Native people of God.
Recognizing a need to call the faithful to support missionary work among African American and Native American Catholics, the U.S. Catholic bishops established this Catholic Church charity for the Catholic Missions in 1884 to administer a national collection—the first of its kind in the United States—to support missionary work.
Ever since the first Collection in 1884, the national Black and Indian Mission Collection. has reflected the generosity of the good People of God and has enabled the Commission to give helpful grants to dioceses across the country to operate schools, parishes, and other missionary services that build the Body of Christ in Native American, Alaska Native, and Black Catholic communities.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg provides collection and distribution support for Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build up the Church and faith formation in African American, Native American and Alaska native communities throughout the United States.

Catholic Charities Announces an important second collection
The CCHD national collection date is the Sunday before Thanksgiving, This year the collection will be held across the Diocese of Ogdensburg on November 20 and 21, 2021.The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the national anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ "... to bring glad tidings to the poor ... liberty to captives ... sight to the blind and let the oppressed go free." (Luke 4:18)
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg serves as a collection and distribution partner and strongly shares the belief that those who are directly affected by unjust systems and structures have the best insight into knowing how to change them is central to CCHD. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, families, and communities. CCHD offers a hand up, not a handout. Particularly in the CoVid-19 pandemic era, such support has become even more critical for the poor.

THE DIOCESAN PHASE OF THE SYNOD:
What is a Synod?

Synod literally means "journeying together" or "together on the way."
-
The purpose of a synod is to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church through all the members of the faithful: Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious, Laity, young and old, those at that center of the faith community and those on the periphery. We need to listen to the Holy Spirit and listen to each other so that we may discern the path ahead.
What is this Synod About?

The Title of the Synod is For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission. We are asked to consider how we journey together and how we are co-responsible for the mission of the Church.

It is a synod about practicing synodality. Pope Francis put it this way: "What the Lord is asking of us is already in some sense present in the very word 'Synod.' Journeying together – laity, pastors, the Bishop of Rome – is an easy concept to put into words, but not so easy to put into practice." (Pope Francis, Address at the Ceremony Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Institution of the Synod of Bishops, October 17, 2015)

40 HOURS OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: St. Peter’s Church, Shady Avenue, Lowville, NY
St. Peter's Church in Lowville, located at 5457 Shady Ave., will be observing The Forty Hours Devotions of the Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament beginning with the 5:30 p.m. mass on Friday, November 19, until the 9:00 a.m. mass on Sunday, November 21, the Feast of Christ the King. The devotion will conclude with a procession and Benediction after the 9:00 a.m. mass. Msgr. Dennis Duprey will be the homilist for the 5:30 p.m. mass on Friday, the 4:00 p.m. mass on Saturday, and the 9:00 a.m. mass on Sunday. The Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth will lead the Holy Hour at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Hedwig's Church, Houseville, will also have its 11:00 a.m. mass on Sunday, November 21. All are welcome to attend the masses and The Forty Hours Devotions to honor the Real Presence. Contact 315-376-6662.
The Catholic Community of St. Peter, St. Mary and St. Hedwig will also be hosting The Vatican International Exhibition of The Eucharistic Miracles of the World in St. Peter's Church hall during the Forty Hour Devotions, on Friday-Sunday, November 19-21, and on November 22. The Exhibition will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and from 10:00 a.m.-Noon on Monday, November 22. All are welcomed and encouraged to view this free extraordinary display of Eucharistic Miracles designed by Blessed Carlo Acutis. Contact 315-348-6260.

ON OUR KNEES PRAYER CAMPAIGN: United in prayer for the Dobbs Supreme Court Case
October 22 - June 22 all are asked to pray for the protection of life in our nation.
Background: January 22, 1973: Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision began the era of abortion on demand in the USA.
• 2018: Mississippi passed a law protecting unborn children after 15 weeks of gestation, when the baby has a heartbeat, eyes that open, ears that hear, and can move and kick. The law was challenged and the case, known as Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, is being heard by the Supreme Court.
• Dobbs v Jackson is a landmark case that could potentially overturn the decision of Roe v Wade. The possibility for future laws protecting the unborn hangs in the balance.
• December 1, 2021 oral arguments for the case will be heard. A decision is expected in June 2022. More information at www.prayfordobbs.com

2021-2022 LEAD EVENTS: Brought to you by The Department of Faith Formation
LEAD (Leadership For Evangelization and Discipleship) offers quality diocesan and regional events to support the varied work of parish ministers. These opportunities include spiritual, personal and professional development, networking and days of reflection. All parishioners in parish ministry are invited to attend LEAD events with the pastor's permission. If a meal is provided, parishes will receive a bill.
DIOCESAN YOUTH COUNCIL: Become a DYC member and be part of something great!
Description: The Diocese of Ogdensburg Diocesan Youth Council (DYC) is a group comprised of members in grades 10-12 who live in the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Each member serves on DYC for a one-year term (members are able to re-apply annually to serve for up to three total terms).
The purpose of Diocesan Youth Council is twofold:
1. Members will grow in spiritual development and leadership skills so they may take a more active role in their local parishes, particularly in youth ministry efforts on the local level.
2. Members will help plan and facilitate diocesan-sponsored events (youth rally, Lenten retreat days) and help promote diocesan-sponsored events (youth rallies, Camp Guggenheim, March for Life, regional events, Catholic Heart Work Camp, etc.).
Diocesan Youth Council is an opportunity to grow in leadership, build friendships, and have fun. It is also a significant responsibility, requiring maturity and commitment. Applying to DYC should be taken seriously and with prayerful consideration.
Requirements:
Members must be in grades 10-12.
Members must demonstrate active involvement in the Church at the parish level.
Members must demonstrate leadership skills, integrity, motivation, and a love for the Lord. Members must attend:
- One Lenten Retreat Day
- Youth Rally
- Annual retreat day or weekend experience
- A minimum of 6 council meetings virtually or in-person. Schedules and locations to be determined by the Director of Youth Ministry and DYC members.
