BLACK AND INDIAN MISSION COLLECTION: November 18-19

Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African American, Native American, and Alaska Native people of God.
Recognizing a need to call the faithful to support missionary work among African American and Native American Catholics, the U.S. Catholic bishops established this Catholic Church charity for the Catholic Missions in 1884 to administer a national collection—the first of its kind in the United States—to support missionary work.
Ever since the first Collection in 1884, the national Black and Indian Mission Collection. has reflected the generosity of the good People of God and has enabled the Commission to give helpful grants to dioceses across the country to operate schools, parishes, and other missionary services that build the Body of Christ in Native American, Alaska Native, and Black Catholic communities.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg provides collection and distribution support for Black and Indian Mission Collection (BIMC) exists to help diocesan communities to build up the Church and faith formation in African American, Native American and Alaska native communities throughout the United States.

PLANNED GIVING: Buy a New Life Insurance Policy

Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by taking out a life insurance policy and name our parish, Catholic school, the Diocese, a Mission Project of the Diocese or a Ministry/Program of the Diocese as beneficiary.  If you name any of the above as owner and beneficiary, the premiums you pay will be deductible on your income tax.  It’s a way to make a large gift on the “installment plan.”

For more information, contact the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org

Did You Know…1 in 4 students has been bullied and 1 in 5 students has been cyberbullied; 30% of young people admit to bullying others; nearly 71% of young people say they have seen bullying in their schools. However, when bystanders SPEAK UP, bullying stops within 10 seconds more than half the time. For more information, contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the November 26 Bulletin

This Advent how will you prepare for the birth of Christ? Our culture tells us more is better, but the Gospel tells us “having little we have all. “ (2 Cor. 6:10) How could this call to Christian simplicity affect the way that I decorate, shop, cook, so that I can focus and share more on the “all” that is Christ this Christmas? Using less and choosing carefully what I do has an impact on the earth and those with whom I share it.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the December 3 Bulletin

What are some ways you can resist the pressures of consumerism to buy more, and embrace a spirit of Christian simplicity in gift-giving this Christmas? One family limits their gift giving in the family to "two needs and one want;" then they donate to families in need. Another family draws a name of one person in the family for gift exchange, so that they purchase for one rather than everyone in the family. Another makes a list of ways to help resist impulsive buying. What is one way that you embrace a spirit of simplicity?

PRAY WITH THE HEART OF A SAINT: Friendship Group: Journey Closer to God

Description: Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom. Father Mike Warren, OMV will talk with us about the book "Praying with St. Augustine," by Sara Park McLaughlin, and answer your questions.

For years, there have been no books of St. Augustine’s prayers available. Finally, in this treasure trove, you will find select prayers from his works — some of the most potent prayers ever composed. As you read the innermost thoughts of the greatest Church Father, you will be transported in time and learn how to pray with the heart of a saint. St. Augustine’s timeless words will help you encounter the “Beauty of ancient days, yet ever new” face-to-face and experience the relationship between praying and believing.

These precious gems are uplifting and accessible to all. Covering a range of topics and styles, they include praise and petition for health, docility, forgiveness, restoration, and salvation.

Offering these magnificent prayers will ready you to behold glimpses into the mystery of God. St. Augustine will teach you:

*The three valuable lessons Jesus taught us about prayer
*The two things always to pray for and how to pray always
*Ways to kindle virtues on the road to sanctity
*How to deepen your love for and devotion to God
*Line by line wisdom on praying the Our Father

St. Augustine taught that prayer makes you ready to receive God’s blessings. As you pray with St. Augustine, be prepared to be blessed!

The book is available at sophiainstitute.com
