THE HOLY EUCHARIST: “HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN”: Save the Date for this Jubilee Year of Hope Event

April 26, 2025, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
St. Agnes Church and School, Lake Placid

“The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.” In honor of Carlo Acutis, the soon-to-be canonized teenager of Italy, the Diocese of Ogdensburg is hosting a day of Miracles, Prayer, and Hope. Called “God’s Influencer” and “the Patron Saint of the Internet,” Carlo Acutis is a saint for our time. His devotion to the Eucharist led him to create a website to track Eucharistic Miracles. We can now take part in his handiwork.

On April 26 (the Saturday after Easter and the eve of Bl. Carlo’s canonization), you are invited to pray with our Eucharistic Lord with Catholics from around our diocese, explore an exhibit of Eucharistic miracles, and join Bishop Terry R. LaValley for a special Holy Hour of Hope, including a procession with Jesus among the faithful and consecration of the Diocese of Ogdensburg to the Eucharist.

There will also be opportunities for attending Mass, inspiring talks, all-day Adoration and Confession. This event is for whole families and includes an interactive exhibit, prayer, fellowship, and an opportunity to serve.

The event schedule, prayer resources, bulletin blurbs, and more information may be found on the Jubilee page of the Diocesan website at https://www.rcdony.org/jubileeh2h.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the March 16 Bulletin

LENT means SPRINGTIME. What needs to grow in the ‘ground’ of my soul this season? Jesus gave us the tools of prayer, fasting and giving for working up the ‘ground’ to help bring about a rich harvest not only for me but for the world around me. Lent provides us with an opportunity to begin building those eco-friendly habits we've been meaning to get a jump on. Deciding what specific changes to make is up to you. Consider your lifestyle, how you can make the most impact and what is feasible for you and your family. Spending time with the Lord is a good place to begin.

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the March 23 Bulletin

Lenten FAST - A Different Kind ’Fast from Food Waste’ is suggested as a Lenten practice by Ignatian Solidarity Network. Approximately 1/3 of food produced is wasted across the global food supply chain in one year. Around 40% is wasted in the United States annually. (Yale Climate Connections) As a result of the 1.3 billion tons of food wasted every year worldwide, 45 trillion gallons of water are also wasted. When we throw food in the trash, we’re throwing away all of the resources that went into growing, harvesting, packaging, and shipping the food such as water, gasoline, land, and pesticides.(NPR) “‘Whenever food is thrown out it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor.’” (Laudato Si’) So food waste is an issue within our control. We have the power to avoid food waste three times a day.

FINDING THE ONE: Spring Workshop at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt, Syracuse

It’s no secret, the fastest growing population in our Church, sadly, are those who have left the Church. These may include our grown children, a spouse, a parent or grandparent, another relative, or a close friend. No generation has been immune from this departure.

Let’s turn our sadness into HOPE by taking a deep dive into understanding that God works through everyone - including YOU - to act as His hand, open and outstretched, to meet people where they are, ready to listen to their story, joyfully prepared for an encounter with our sisters and brothers who have left, to welcome them home.

In addition to the variety of speakers for this event, we are honored to have Bishop Douglas Lucia as our keynote speaker. Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in DeWitt. There is no cost for this event and lunch will be served. To Register click HERE or scan the QR code on the flyer. For more information, contact: Deacon Jeff Dixe: jdixe@syrdio.org
