PLANNED GIVING: MEMORARE LEGACY SOCIETY

Have you already or have been thinking about leaving a legacy by designating a portion of your assets to pass at death to the Diocese of Ogdensburg, your parish or school or diocesan program or organization? The Memorare Legacy Society honors and recognizes the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to leave a legacy to the Diocese of Ogdensburg through estate or deferred gifts. Members of this society are those who have informed the Diocese of a planned gift that, in the future, will benefit the Diocese of Ogdensburg or any of its parishes or programs. This ensures a continuous commitment of care to their Church, to the Church’s vision and to the charitable works that flow from her missions through their thoughtful planned gift. For more information on the Memorare Legacy Society, contact: Scott Lalone, Executive Director, Development Office 393-2920, slalone@rcdony.org

REQUEST FOR USED RELIGIOUS ITEMS

A woman by the name of Kimberly Walters from a ‘St. Mary’s Mission’ in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is emailing some of our parishes, claiming to “find new homes for used Religious items.”  This woman is asking for sacred vessels, vestments, statuary, rosaries, etc. that are no longer being used.  Although the email states these items will be given to parishes and organizations in need of them, the Diocese of Harrisburg has informed us this woman is selling these items on eBay.   Please do not send this woman any sacred vessels or other religious items from your parish.  Thank you.

200329 mary

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.

AMEN.

TIPS ON HOW TO SPOT SPOOFING OR PHISHING SCAM EMAILS: A Reminder from the IT Director

There has been an increase in the number of Spoofing or Phishing emails throughout the diocese. Email spoofing is an email message with a forged header (from) address. The message appears to have originated from a legitimate or familiar source. It is often used to trick people into providing information, giving money, or infecting your computer with a virus. The following are some tips on how to spot a spoofing or phishing email:

  • Don’t trust the display name.
  • Verify the “from email address”.
  • Check for grammatical or spelling mistakes within the email;
  • Look at the salutation;
  • Never provide personal, bank or credit card information in an email;  The Diocese, Priests and others will never ask for money or personal information.
  • Beware of urgent or threatening language in subject line;
  • Don’t click on attachments or a link;
  • Don’t reply to a suspect email;

If you are unsure, contact ifawcett@rcdony.org or call the person or send them a new email to the address that you have in your contacts.

200629 census2

COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS: respond now.

It is important to complete the census.  Census results affect planning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, rural education, adult education, and grants for preschool special education; planning and funding for infrastructure—including programs for highway planning and construction, Section 8 housing, federal transit, community development, and rural water and waste disposal systems; planning and funding for employment and training—including programs for vocational rehabilitation state grants, dislocated workers, and American Indian and Alaska Native employment and training; planning and funding for healthcare—including programs such as Medicaid, Medicare Part B, State Children’s Health Insurance, and the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

A census response is required from every property, including seasonal homes: If you live at multiple places throughout the year, count yourself at the address where you live and sleep most of the time.  If you split your time evenly between two or more places, count yourself where you were staying on April 1, 2020.  However, a census response is required from each and every property.200629 census
