NFP AWARENESS WEEK JULY 19-25:Annual USCCB initiative to increase awareness of God's plan for married love.
Posters will be sent to all parishes; additional materials upon request.

July 19-25 marks National NFP Awareness Week, which invites everyone to consider the beauty of God's plan for sex, love and marriage. "Like so many other people who have made the switch to Natural Family Planning," Jennifer Fulwiler writes, "I simply couldn't be okay with any form of sterilization any more, whether temporary or permanent. In that place deep in the heart where the most important truths about our humanity reside, I know as surely as I know anything else that those Catholic teachings about human sexuality are true and good."

The USCCB has additional material available for download:

More information can be found on the USCCB Website or to learn more about those teachings, or about NFP--a healthy, effective, respectful approach to family planning--please contact the Diocesan NFP Office, apietropaoli@rcdony.org or 518-483-0459. Visit us at https://www.rcdony.org/nfp

MPDO COLLECTION JULY 25-26: Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg

Ordinarily, we would be gearing up for our annual efforts that split the Diocese down the middle: Mission COOP and MPDO summer appeals. Each half (west vs. east) alternates summers with our efforts to raise much needed funds for our Mission Lands.

One of the many things cancelled is our summer Missionary Cooperation Program, with action taken by the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Society for everyone’s safety. Very often, mission co-op missionaries travel here from far away mission lands or from cities here in the USA. Once here, they are guests of our local parishes, speak in our churches, interact with local parishioners, and leave a lasting impact on the communities that host them. This is just not possible in 2020. So, the Mission Office has come up with a new plan.

This summer, the Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg annual collection will take place across the diocese on the weekend of July 25-26. The 2020 MPDO collection will be used to help with a number of causes this year. It will support missionary priests and religious who work here in our diocese: Sisters of Chavanod, Archdiocese of Caceras, Philippines, The Herald of Good News; it will continue to support the Church in Latin America; it will further our solidarity efforts in the Diocese of Latakia; provide continued support for our former mission parish in Mollendo, Peru; and lastly, it will help any other mission project throughout the world that Bishop Terry LaValley deems appropriate as part of our evangelization efforts. Thank you for your support. God bless and be assured of our prayers in these challenging times.

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.
AMEN.

TIPS ON HOW TO SPOT SPOOFING OR PHISHING SCAM EMAILS: A Reminder from the IT Director

There has been an increase in the number of Spoofing or Phishing emails throughout the diocese. Email spoofing is an email message with a forged header (from) address. The message appears to have originated from a legitimate or familiar source. It is often used to trick people into providing information, giving money, or infecting your computer with a virus. The following are some tips on how to spot a spoofing or phishing email:

  • Don’t trust the display name.
  • Verify the “from email address”.
  • Check for grammatical or spelling mistakes within the email;
  • Look at the salutation;
  • Never provide personal, bank or credit card information in an email;  The Diocese, Priests and others will never ask for money or personal information.
  • Beware of urgent or threatening language in subject line;
  • Don’t click on attachments or a link;
  • Don’t reply to a suspect email;

If you are unsure, contact ifawcett@rcdony.org or call the person or send them a new email to the address that you have in your contacts.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE: St. Anne's Shrine, Isle LaMotte

On Sunday, July 19th, Knights of Columbus from throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg will participate in their 72nd annual pilgrimage to St. Anne's Shrine in Isle LaMotte, Vermont. State Deputy Wally Wych will welcome Most Reverend Terry A. LaValley, who will celebrate mass at 12:15 p.m. Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds following mass. The Peru Knights will not be serving lunch this year, and the Shrine's cafeteria will not be open.

Beautiful St. Anne's Shrine is located on the shores of Lake Champlain only a few miles from the Rouses Point Bridge.  The Shrine's religious history began in 1666 when the French erected a fort and chapel on the site. The chapel was blessed in 1893, and a beautiful statue of St. Anne, the mother of Mary, was erected.

For more information, please call Pilgrimage Coordinator Peter Keenan at 518-643-9241.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the July 25/26 Bulletin)

Jesus used something as small as a pearl to symbolize something as great as the Kingdom of God. (Mt. 13:44-52) What small piece of God’s creation catches your attention today -outdoors or at mealtime? How might it connect you with the greatness of the Creator and evoke within you a sense of wonder and praise?

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the August 1/2 Bulletin)

When the disciples wanted to send the crowds away to get food, Jesus instructed them "…give them some food yourselves." (Mt. 14:16) Gandhi seems to echo this message that there is enough for all,
"There is enough food for everyone’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed." The virtue of Christian simplicity urges us to live simply so others may simply live. What could I do today to simplify my life that would ensure that someone else might simply live?

COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS: respond now.

It is important to complete the census.  Census results affect planning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, rural education, adult education, and grants for preschool special education; planning and funding for infrastructure—including programs for highway planning and construction, Section 8 housing, federal transit, community development, and rural water and waste disposal systems; planning and funding for employment and training—including programs for vocational rehabilitation state grants, dislocated workers, and American Indian and Alaska Native employment and training; planning and funding for healthcare—including programs such as Medicaid, Medicare Part B, State Children’s Health Insurance, and the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

A census response is required from every property, including seasonal homes: If you live at multiple places throughout the year, count yourself at the address where you live and sleep most of the time.  If you split your time evenly between two or more places, count yourself where you were staying on April 1, 2020.  However, a census response is required from each and every property.200629 census
