WORLD DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE: Pastors and Secretaries, Catechetical Leaders and Catechists

World Day for Consecrated Life—February 2, 2024
World Day for Consecrated Life will be celebrated on Friday, February 2, 2024. Men and women, who are called to the Consecrated Life, radically dedicate their lives to Jesus Christ publicly to show the world that they are called to witness His call to love and to proclaim the Gospel message that brings the message of hope to the world. They profess vows of chastity, poverty and obedience that express complete self-gift to Jesus Christ.
Parishes across the Diocese of Ogdensburg will celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life over the weekend of February 3-4, 2024. Please pray for all those living this radical life of following Jesus. Be sure to thank them on their special day, especially those who serve in your parish and school community. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God’s gift of their vocation.

FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTIONS: Every First Saturday, 9 AM - 10 AM (next first Saturday February 5)

(Weather permitting. Please feel free to join us earlier, beginning at 8:30 AM for private prayers and recollection)
Our Lady of the Adirondack House of Prayer
7270 Star Road
Ellenburg Ctr, NY
Call Sarah at 518-534-9976 for directions or more information.

What is First Saturday Devotion? First Saturday Devotions require a commitment to do the same requirements each time over five consecutive months as requested by our Blessed Mother at Fatima. The requirements for each of the First Saturdays selected are... To receive Holy Communion in a state of grace; To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) preferably on that Saturday, but at least within eight days prior or eight days following the First Saturday indicating that it is being done as part of First Saturday Devotions for Reparation; To recite five decades of the Holy Rosary and meditate beyond the recitation for 15 minutes on one or all of the mysteries.

Why commit to this particular devotion? It is undertaken because the children who met with Mary at Fatima were instructed many times that this was important. It can be difficult, because it involves a sacrifice of time and possibly current priorities or even certain religious beliefs.

Why is this important? Mary indicated that she herself has been and is wounded and hurt by the indifference, insults, even blasphemy hurled at her, sometimes by those who believe they love her Son. She asks that those who wish to make this sacrifice do so with the specific stated intention of "making reparation for the sins committed against my Immaculate Heart."

Where can we join others to worship and make this reparation? Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is, to the best of our knowledge, the only site in the North Country area which currently offers First Saturday Devotions with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. We invite you to join us on any First Saturday for this act of reparation in the warmth and love of this very special place of prayer and worship…and then return for the additional months! Mary promises that it makes a world of difference in our lives and in our world.

It Starts with a SPARK. We believe God wants to do something NEW in the Church. By the power of Jesus in the Eucharist, we believe we stand on the precipice of revival.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER:

Did You Know…there are positive action steps for safe adults to take when children disclose abuse. Actively Listen: give the child or youth your undivided attention, listen calmly and patiently without judgment. Ask Limited Questions: what happened? when? where? who? Maintain Awareness: be mindful of body language and reaction; keep your face neutral, calm, and collected. Be Supportive: believe them, reassure them you can help keep them safe, acknowledge their courage and never assign blame to them. Take Action: communicate with Child Protective Services and/or local law enforcement as soon as possible. For more information, contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the February 4 Bulletin

“Ice and snow bless the Lord.” Often the weather forecaster focuses our attention on the harshness of winter. However, this is not the only approach to a winter day. The Psalmist see the beauty of winter and blesses the Lord for it. While our head may be turned down to protect us from the potential hazards of the ice and snow, like the Psalmist, let’s take time today to lift our eyes to the incredible beauty of snow, and bless the Lord.
