LENTEN PARISH MISSION PODCAST: The Father Roger Podcast
COVID has prevented most of us from having the traditional in person Lenten parish mission this year. That’s why I’m offering a podcast alternative to my parishioners led by Roger McGuinness. It will begin on February 16th and new episodes will be added each week. You are more than welcome to include your parishioners too. I have written a bulletin blurb below. St. Mary’s Church of Ticonderoga (OR INSERT YOUR PARISH) is offering a special Lenten Parish Mission podcast hosted by Father J. Roger McGuinness!
Fr. J. Roger McGuinness has been a priest of the Diocese of Ogdensburg for over 50 years. He has been a pastor, seminary and university professor, retreat master, college chaplain and vocation director. Now retired from active ministry he continues to write and give spiritual direction.
Fr. Roger will be leading us in a Lenten mission featuring weekly reflections on the Sunday gospel readings. He will also offer a special reflection on the life of St. Joseph on March 19th, the Feast of St. Joseph.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg is seeking a Diocesan Coordinator – Office of Parish Audit & Financial Support Services. This position provides support in the financial operation of parishes, schools and related entities in the diocese including technical support in the use of QuickBooks Pro and standard accounting practices. This position also oversees the process by which reviews of parish fiscal operations are conducted and reviews annual submission of Parish Financial Reports to assure financial statements are in balance an in accordance with diocesan accounting regulations. A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting with two years audit experience is preferred. Knowledge in QuickBooks Pro accounting software is required. Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to work independently and manage/establish priority for several projects at the same time. Lent provides us with an opportunity to begin building those eco-friendly habits we've been meaning to get a jump on. Deciding what specific changes to make is up to you. Consider your lifestyle, how you can make the most impact and what is feasible for you and your family. Spending time with the Lord is a good place to begin.

’Fast from Food Waste’ is suggested as a Lenten practice by Ignatian Solidarity Network. Approximately 1/3 of food produced is wasted across the global food supply chain in one year. Around 40% is wasted in the United States annually. (Yale Climate Connections) As a result of the 1.3 billion tons of food wasted every year worldwide, 45 trillion gallons of water are also wasted. When we throw food in the trash, we’re throwing away all of the resources that went into growing, harvesting, packaging, and shipping the food such as water, gasoline, land, and pesticides.(NPR) “….‘whenever food is thrown out it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor.’” -- Laudato Si’ So food waste is an issue within our control. We have the power to avoid food waste three times a day.

Prayer to St. Joseph
Joseph, you were a man who carried into dark of anxious sleep the haunting mystery of deep, unsettled doubt. But yet, within, and all untouched, your citadel of trust was calm, serene and still and flamed your unstarred night into the answering of dawn in God’s unchanging will. O carpenter of faith, build our inwardness into a city lamped with trust; and when we, too, must face the nights and tread the desert’s way, let us, like you, take Mother and Child into the Egypt of each day. Good St. Joseph, come to our aid in these times of anguish and difficulty. Take under your protection the critical and troubling circumstances of the day. Keep us calm and serene, so aware of your Presence. AMEN.

SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH FOUNDATION: Grant Application Cycle Now Open
The Sisters of St. Joseph Foundation is established in the spirit of its charism - to enable service of the 'dear neighbor.' Its goal is to assist in developing leadership for diocesan, parish and church related programs in the North Country. Applicants must be applying for or be currently active in a leadership role in a diocesan, parish or established program and be sponsored by the Director of that program. Applications may be submitted during March and April. Grants will be a maximum of $4000 and recipients will be notified by the beginning of June. THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM: Volunteer Opportunity
The Foster Grandparent Program’s purpose is to provide opportunities for low income persons aged 55 and older, to provide person-to-person services in health, education, and the welfare of children ages 21 and below. Foster Grandparents are placed in a classroom setting with a child or children who are in need of emotional support, development of basic learning skills, to provide friendship, companionship, encouragement, individual attention, and unhurried help. The Foster Grandparent also receives a small non-taxable stipend bi-weekly that cannot be held against any current benefits you may already have and you also get paid mileage for your travel.
Location: Jefferson County, Clinton County, Essex County, St. Lawrence, and Franklin.

RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: Volunteer Opportunity
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program’s purpose is to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for older Americans. Volunteers provide service to those that prove to be in need throughout Franklin and Hamilton Counties. The volunteer hours served will help not only the people served but their families as well. Volunteer hours will encourage healthy living and independence and help to combat loneliness and depression, and give the youth of our community an upper hand in education. This goal will be accomplished by placing volunteers with homebound and hard to reach elders/and or children by providing friendly visiting, running errands, medical transport, delivering meals, friendship and assisting children with reading and tutoring.
