The newspaper shares information about events and happenings around the diocese and helps us learn about opportunities to further connect and grow in faith and love of the Lord. SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH FOUNDATION: Grant Application Cycle Now Open 

In the spirit of their charism, the Sisters of St. Joseph Foundation supports initiatives that foster service to the 'dear neighbor.' Its goal is to assist in developing leadership and advancing initiatives related to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in diocesan, parish and church related programs in the North Country. Those wishing to advance their leadership role and who are supported by the director of a program may submit an application. Applications may be submitted during March and April. Grants will be a maximum of $4,000. Recipients will be notified in June. The RCC of St. Alexander and St. Joseph Churches, Morrisonville N.Y., is pleased to announce our new program, funded by a grant through the New York State Office for New Americans.
Diane Noiseux, Immigration Resource Coordinator, will provide case management to immigrants and Refugees, coordinate resources and referrals, conduct outreach, and build capacity in the North Country Region to serve new Americans. She will also facilitate Free immigration Consultation at least twice a month.
The North Country Region includes Clinton, Essex, St Lawrence, Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton and Lewis Counties.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM OF NORTHERN NEW YORK

The Foster Grandparent Program hosted by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg purpose is to provide opportunities for low-income persons aged 55 and older, that reside in Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties. Foster Grandparents provide person to person services in health, education, and the welfare of children ages 21 and below. Foster Grandparents are placed in a classroom setting with children who need development of basic learning skills, to provide friendship and unhurried help. You will also receive a small non- taxable stipend that will not interfere with current benefits you may be receiving. You will also receive mileage for travel, paid holidays, vacations, sick time, and personal days! We hope that you will be part of our team of volunteers in your community. IHC MYSTERY PLAYERS AT ST. RAPHAEL'S IN HEUVELTON MARCH 19, 2023 7:30 p.m.:  

One of the most beautiful Lenten traditions is the Stations of the Cross. The Immaculate Heart Central High School Mystery Players from Watertown will present a creative play entitled The Way of the Cross. Mystery plays on the Stations of the Cross have a history that extends back to the Middle Ages. The IHC Mystery Players bring the Way of the Cross to a modern level through the use of special lighting, music, pantomime and paraliturgical readings.

The IHC Mystery Players have performed throughout New York State, as well as in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Canada. They will present the Mystery Play, The Way of the Cross at St. Raphael’s Church in Heuvelton on March 19 at 7:30 p.m. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this unique and powerful prayer experience. Did You Know…Each year approximately 500,000 allegations of abuse of vulnerable adults are reported to Adult Protective Services. Some experts, however, estimate that a very small percentage of cases are ever reported. Studies indicate that as many as 10 percent of the vulnerable adult population is subject to abuse and that only one in six will be reported. The Diocesan Safe Environment Office provides online training to help you learn more about how you can protect vulnerable adults. Looking for a Youth or Family project that will help to heal the earth? Trees are the ‘lungs of the earth’ and purify the air. With recent forest fires and the increased demand for lumber to rebuild after recent environmental destruction, the need is even greater now. NYS Tree Nursery is offering packets of 50 tree saplings to schools, and youth groups, FREE. They will be shipped directly to your group on the date you request. PREPARATION FOR PARISH NURSING:  Begins March 10

Mercy Care for the Adirondacks will offer preparation for the role of Parish Nurse beginning March 10 at St. Joseph's Outreach Center, Plattsburgh, NY. This course is open to registered  nurses and others who are interested in health ministry in their parishes or with Mercy Care. Parish Nurses (Faith Community Nurses) assist the members of their faith community to maintain or regain wholeness in body, mind and spirit. They promote wellness by health screening, health education, advocating for clients, connecting them to services in their community, listening and providing support. There is no charge for this course, but registration is required. SURVIVING DIVORCE: Ministry to Separated and Divorced adults

The Family Life Office will offer the Surviving Divorce program again starting in late February in Gouverneur, Canton and Potsdam/Colton. Surviving Divorce features twelve video presentations that cover topics such as shock and grief, anger and forgiveness, money issues, dealing with children and a former spouse, and annulment and remarriage. This program is for the newly separated and divorced and those still struggling with issues many years later. It will help them find answers to their questions, restore their hope and begin authentic healing. Cost is $25. To register, go to https://www.rcdony.org/survivingdivorce. WE ARE JESUS IN THE WORLD YOUTH RALLY: Open To Middle And High School Age Youth

The Office of Youth Ministry is excited to offer a day of celebration for the young people living in the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Our 2023 theme “We are Jesus in the World” is all about living our lives to the fullest by being Jesus to others. It’s not always easy, but when we focus on using our gifts and talents for others, we can find joy and do some really good work for the Lord! Plan on having a really good time getting pumped up with a super presentation from Monet Souza and a bouncing concert from Catholic recording artist, Joe Melendrez. There will also be games, competitions, MC entertainment and great food at the High Peaks resort. We will wrap up this fun-filled day with a closing Mass offered by Bishop Terry LaValley. This is an all-inclusive event and is made available at the low-ticket price of $35 per youth.

The 2023 Youth Rally is open to all Middle and High School age young people.

RITE OF ELECTION: Attention RCIA Teams

The Rite of Election (ROE) this year will be held the first Sunday of Lent, February 26 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg. All parishioners are invited to come to the Cathedral to experience this liturgy and offer prayer and support to the Catechumens and Candidates preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church this Easter. YOUR BEST LENT YET!: Lenten Retreats for youth in grades 7 to 12

Lent is a perfect time for all of us to think about how we can be more like Jesus in our homes, at school, and in our communities.
During this retreat, you and your friends will be able to have some fun while putting together your “Best Lent Yet” plan! This compact retreat will contain moments of fun, reflection and conversation, and workshops.
Drinks and snacks will be provided.

MIDDLE SCHOOL RETREAT: St. Lawrence-Franklin Region, pastors, catechists, principals

The Vocation Office and the Office of Youth Ministry is sponsoring a Middle School Retreat (Grades 6-8) in the St. Lawrence/Franklin region of the Diocese on Wednesday, March 22 at St. Mary’s Social Hall, Massena from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact your pastor, Catholic school principal, or Religious Education coordinator for a registration form.
The purpose of a Middle School Retreat is to guide young women and men to prayerfully consider what God’s plan is for their lives. This invitation is open to students in Grades 6-8 both in the Catholic schools and public schools. This is a Retreat Day for the students and is considered a legal excused absence.

GUGGENHEIM SUMMER CAMP: The 2023 registration is open!

We are currently filling camper spots for the 2023 Summer Season.
New this year is a mini-session for youth ages 11-13 years old.
Please visit the website listed below to learn more and register your child!

Camp Guggenheim is a Catholic sleepaway camp for teens ages 11 to 18 years old. All teens of any background are welcome at Guggenheim Summer Camp. This year camp offers 1 mini-session for 11–13-year olds, 4 week-long sessions for teens ages 12 to 15 years old, and 1 week-long session for teens 16 to 18 years old.
The 2023 season starts July 5th and ends August 11th. The cost to attend the mini-session is $200 and the remaining 5 weeklong sessions cost $425 per camper. Great meals and accommodations are included in the registration fee.
The camp is located on the northern shore of Lower Saranac Lake surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains.
There are so many fun things to do at camp! Like arts and crafts, Project Adventure, Liturgy, rappelling, hiking, basketball, or soccer. Guggenheim has its very own beach where you can swim, tool around on our watercrafts and play watersports. Evenings at camp are packed with fun activities like bonfire time, a dance, outdoor movies, and camp-wide games.
Summer Camp Guggenheim is a fun place where you can make great friends, escape the craziness of the world, and just chill with cool people like you.
