Attention all Catechetical Leaders, RCIA Directors, Youth Ministers
A live Zoom event with Director of the Department of Faith Formation, Sister Ellen Rose Coughlin, SSJ.
The sacraments, beginning with Baptism, touch all the stages and all the important moments of the Christian’s life. Christ comes to meet us in the “outward signs” of the sacraments, giving birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian’s life of faith (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1113).

RESPECT LIFE SECOND COLLECTION: January 23/24, 2021
The Respect Life Second Collection is held in parishes each January, near the anniversary of the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion in our nation. In 2021, this collection will be held the weekend of January 23/24. Grants from the collection benefit pro-life projects in our diocese. Thank you for your support of efforts to build a culture of life.

The Devotion to the Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys of St. Joseph is observed on the seven Sundays preceding the March 19 feast of St. Joseph. The suggested prayers of the faithful may be downloaded HERE.

SAVE THE DATES: 99 EXPERIENCE, A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
The 99 Experience is a three-session video presentation to spark conversation, inspire prayer and awaken the call of God’s love within you. Think of it as a virtual parish mission. As Catholics, we often think of ourselves as part of the flock, as part of the 99, safe in the care of the Good Shepherd. We do not see ourselves as the "one lost sheep" needing to be found, nor do we feel the need to go out and search for the one lost sheep.

The 99 Experience is a call to recognize that we might be that one sheep who is lost, even though we are part of Jesus’ flock. It is a call to enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. It is also a call to recognize that God may want to work through us to go out an find the one who is lost.

Did you know that each January 1 is World Day of Peace, when the pope sends his message to all foreign ministers around the world? Pope Francis’ message this year is titled, “A CULTURE OF CARE AS A PATH TO PEACE.” A culture of care as a way to combat the culture of indifference, waste and confrontation so prevalent in our time. As a vital part of the Church, what creative act can I do in my family, my parish, my workplace, in "our common home" that will foster a more peace-filled place to live and foster a culture of care?

How can my simple small acts to "reduce, reuse and recycle" possibly contribute to peace in the world? In his message on World Day of Peace 2021, Pope Frances reminds us that all creation is interconnected. It also highlights our need to listen to the cry of the poor and, at the same time, to the cry of creation. Constant and attentive listening leads to effective care for the earth, our common home, and for our brothers and sisters in need… Peace, justice and care for creation are three inherently connected questions, which cannot be separated in such a way as to be treated individually, lest we fall back into reductionism." Our responsible use of God’ gifts that are meant for everyone is one step that we can make towards building a more just and compassionate world.

JANUARY RETREAT DAY: Walking with St. Joseph as Our Guide
“Walking with St. Joseph as our Guide.” This year, the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph being declared the “Patron of the Church,” has been dedicated to St. Joseph in our diocese since May 1 and in the universal Church since December 8. Our attention is focused on one in the background of the Nativity scene. This retreat day will consider the mind and heart of St. Joseph, as reflected in his actions, and how he may be a faithful guide and companion in our own lives. It will also provide opportunities for prayer and sharing.
When: Saturday, January 16 from 10:00 am to 2:00pm

CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS AND AUXILIARY: Recruiting members
The Department of New York Catholic War Veterans (CWV) and Auxiliary are launching a campaign to recruit membership in our organizations. The organizations success depends on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The CWV and Auxiliary belong to the people they serve and the communities we live in. Join us in camaraderie and in service for our Church and our Catholic way of life.
Requirements: Specific "wartime" service is not required to become a member. Any baptized Catholic serving in the Armed Forces or discharged under honorable conditions for a period of 90 days or longer, including time served in the Reserves and National Guard, is eligible for membership in the CVW. The Catholic War Veteran's Auxiliary is open to any baptized Catholic man or woman related within 2 degrees to a veteran or currently serving member of the Armed Forces. The veteran or serviceman or servicewoman can be of any faith. Active duty men and women will have the dues waived until separated from active service.
