200329 mary

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and our Patroness,
we ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our diocese, our nation and our world,
for our families and loved ones,
the protection of your Maternal mantle from this dreaded virus.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace and healing Presence of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Keep us in the embrace of your arms,
Help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus our Lord.
AMEN.

GRANT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: attention Pastors

The Diocese of Ogdensburg annually offers two grants of $5,000.00 each to assist the parishes and institutions of the Diocese in providing assistance for people with disabilities.

These funds are made available from the annual contribution of the New York State Knights of Columbus to the Diocese of Ogdensburg. They will be distributed by the diocese on the recommendations of Catholic Charities and the Department of Education.

The criteria for acceptability of the request cover several factors. Improvement in already existing programs or facilities will be considered. Some ideas for funding include: adapting facilities, special equipment, training for personnel, and program development.

It is important to remember that programs which have received funding previously may not apply for the grant for the following three years.  Programs/projects must show proof of additional sources of revenue to support the programs/projects.

If you wish to be considered for a grant, please plan your proposal carefully. The grant application may be downloaded HERE

Applications must be submitted by May 22, 2020. Monies will be allocated after June 5, 2020.

If you have any questions regarding the grant and/or the application please contact vlalonde@rcdony.org or call (315) 393-2920 ext. 1411.

WALKING WITH MOMS IN NEED: A YEAR OF SERVICE: A Prayer for Pregnant Mothers

Bishop LaValley, along with the other bishops of the United States, is encouraging the people of the Diocese of Ogdensburg to participate in Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service.

https://www.walkingwithmoms.com/

This program aims at highlighting the pregnant and parenting moms in our parishes, identifying resources available within local communities, and connecting these women to the resources they need.

While our normal routine and activities have been disrupted, one thing that we can do is pray. Won’t you please join in praying for pregnant and parenting moms every day.

A Prayer for Pregnant Mothers:

O Blessed Mother, you received the good news of the incarnation of Christ, your Son, with faith and trust. Grant your protection to all pregnant mothers facing difficulties.

Guide us as we strive to make our parish communities places of welcome and assistance for mothers in need. Help us become instruments of God’s love and compassion.

Mary, Mother of the Church, graciously help us build a culture of life and a civilization of love, together with all people of good will, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the May 2/3 Bulletin)

This May we celebrate the Fifth Anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home. What a timely gift this Encyclical is to help us understand our role as citizens of the planet and followers of the Risen Christ today. “Laudato Si “which means ‘Praise be to You,‘ is taken from St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle to the Sun. This hymn of praise to our Creator reminds us that as humans we are united with all creation. He invites us to join our praise to that of the earth and heavens. Take a walk outside today and discover how many forms of the earth around you that give praise by their very existence and join their praise. For more ways to celebrate this Anniversary, see Laudato Si Anniversary USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops)

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the May 9/10 Bulletin)

As we continue to combat the Coronavirus and its devastating effects on the human family, it has made us acutely aware of our interconnectedness with the whole human family. In Pope Francis’ Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home, he addresses another world-wide crisis, an ecological crisis. This crisis cannot be fixed by a vaccine. It can only be healed by an ‘ecological conversion’ that calls for a radical change in the way we live. To learn more about our Christian call to live the Gospel today in response to the “cries of the earth and the crisis of the poor,” see the YouTube Video Series Understanding Laudato Si by Franciscan Friar Dan Horan, OFM or read the Encyclical free at Vatican web page.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did you know...the “No Hit Zone” is a national movement of multiple child-serving organizations, advocacy centers, hospitals, families and others to prevent physical abuse and other harmful behavior. A No Hit Zone sets a precedent within the community and establishes a commitment to the promotion of effective parenting techniques by instilling that:  No adult shall hit a child; No child shall hit another child; No adult shall hit another adult; No child shall hit an adult. Additional resources to help give tools other than hitting or spanking can be found at https://stopspanking.org/

PLANNED GIVING: Appreciate Offertory Support

Bishop LaValley, our pastors and the Development Office are so grateful of the continued support during this COVID-19 pandemic isolation. Parish Offertory envelopes are being mailed, dropped off and gifts on-line (where offered), It’s Our Church, It’s Our Future Capital Campaign and Bishop’s Fund Appeal gifts and pledge payments continue to come in via mail and on-line as well. As we have not been able to gather together to share our faith, the continued support to stay spiritually engaged and the continued generous financial support from parishioners throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg has been both noticed and appreciated.
