DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE: For the victims of sexual abuse by the clergy and for the purification of the Church

In response to requests by our Pope and Bishop, St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg will host a Day of Prayer and Penance: for the victims of sexual abuse by the clergy and for the purification of the Church.”

The mystical Body of Christ, the Church, is grievously wounded by these betrayals. Please join us in prayer and penance on Friday, September 14, the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, beginning with 12:00 noon Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral. The day will continue with adoration of the Holy Eucharist and praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 pm. Bishop LaValley will lead us in a Holy Hour of Reparation beginning at 4:00 pm. We will conclude with Benediction at 5:00 pm.

May all who have suffered find healing and strength, and may our Church reflect anew the true holiness of the Body of Christ!

YOUTH LEAD: 2018 Leadership Weekend

Jesus calls us to, "Love one another as I have loved you" John 13:34

We are presented with opportunities to "love one another" all the time, yet it can be difficult to recognize these moments through all the noise and interference that exist in today's world. Even when we recognize the moments to “love one another,” to become “Disciple Leaders,” we may not know how or why we should do so.

Join us on this weekend of faith, fellowship and fun as we learn about Jesus's love for us and how we can grow to become "Disciple Leaders" in our homes, communities, schools and work.

This year's retreat location will be held at Guggenheim on the weekend of September 28-30

The ticket price for this all-inclusive retreat is $70.00 *Workshops, meals, and accommodations, included*

For schedule information see https://www.rcdony.org/youth/leadership.htm or contact Tom Semeraro, Director of Youth Ministry at: 315-393-2920 ext. 1415

THE CATHOLIC FAMILY: God's Answer for our Time

The Catholic Family is a countercultural sign witnessing the love and light of Christ to the world.

This one-day event for families: men, women and teens is intended to help us be the salt and light in our communities. As we are strengthened in our own faith and learn how much we are loved by God, we in turn will become signs of hope, faith and love for those around us.

This powerful event is for everyone in the diocese! That means YOU! There will be sessions for adults, as well as evening tracks for teenagers.

Our keynote speaker will be Johnnette Benkovic Williams, who, together with Thomas Sullivan and Sue Brinkman will present us with strategies for living our faith out loud so that we may be beacons of hope in a noisy and confused world.

The day will include Morning Prayer, presentations, Mass with Bishop LaValley, special evening presentations for teens, and will conclude with a Healing Rosary service.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the September 22/23 Bulletin)

Fashion is an industry that harms the environment especially Fast Fashion which is clothing that is produced quickly and inexpensive. Items of clothing thrown away are filling up landfills at an alarming rate of 12.8 million tons of textile. Repurposing clothing you have outgrown can give others less fortunate something to wear. Works of love directed to one's neighbor are the most perfect external manifestation of the interior grace of the Spirit…. – Pope Francis

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the September 29/30  Bulletin)

“I come away from my walk in the woods reminded that the world and all creation are so immense and that I am so small. Not that I don’t matter. To the Creator of the universe, we all matter. But I am a part of something so much bigger that I can’t fully grasp. That awareness brings me a sense of both awe and peace. My struggles matter, but they are just one part of a vast universe. I can go forward a little more calmly and make a humble decision, trusting in the God who created all.”--Pope Francis Take a walk outside today and think about how much it matters to take care of Creation.

A strong prayer life, a genuine love of people, a welcoming inclusive spirit, and joyful excitement at the prospects of renewal through evangelization are among the prerequisites for this position. Other people who share this calling are also being sought for Residency to live in community. The mission of the House of Prayer is “to promote prayer, recollection, retreats, and spiritual development for all, and with special attention to those living in the North Country.” Its vision is “to imitate the way of life of Jesus Christ in a spirit of simplicity and hospitality expressed through the poverty, love and peace exemplified in our Lord and his blessed mother, Mary.” We know that the House Formation Coordinator position is not for everyone, but we believe that some folks have been called by the Lord in this special way, either as the House Formation Coordinator, or as a Resident....and we look forward to hearing from you. Please call the House at 518-594-3253 for more information or contact Sarah Anderson at 518-846-3060
