ORGAN RECITAL WITH DOMINIC FIACCO OCTOBER 23 AT 3 PM AT ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL IN OGDENSBURG: 150th anniversary event

Dominic Fiacco will be giving an organ recital October 23 at 3 pm at Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, as part of the Cathedral parish’s 70th anniversary celebrations, and within the context of the Diocese’s 150th anniversary. There is no admission fee. A light reception will follow. Dominic Fiacco‘s curiosity about the organ began when he attended a recital at age 8, after which he was invited to try the organ. Shortly thereafter, he began lessons with Stephen Best, organist, who discovered Dominic’s exceptional talent combining technical virtuosity with highly developed musical sensitivity.  He has performed recitals at the Cathedral Church of St. John Divine in New York City and at the Cadet Chapel at West Point, location of the third largest organ in the world, and has a fully booked 2022-2023 season. He owns a German-built pipe organ given to him by an organist in Massachusetts who learned of him by watching several of his videos on YouTube.  Dominic began taking piano lessons at the age of 4. He has won multiple prizes in several piano competitions. In addition, he has performed multiple times on the Society for New Music’s Rising Stars programs both as an organist and a pianist. Dominic is assistant organist at the Parish Community of St. Leo and St. Ann in Holland Patent, where he plays the 8:45 mass every Sunday. He intends to pursue a career in organ  performance.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did You Know…Safety Rules can keep you safe in an unsafe world. Safety Rule #1 – Know What’s Up. This means you are aware of situations in your environment and people around you that may not be safe, both online and off. It also means knowing things like always staying with a friend and memorizing your parents’ and Safe Adults cell phone numbers. When you are aware, you are empowered and less likely to be victimized. For more information, contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the October 15/16 Bulletin

Laudato Si' writing speaks often about the poor people who are living in poverty. Pope Francis stresses the plight of the poor. Living in poverty often encompasses disease and loss of self-worth. Take time to discover what is happening in your local neighborhood as well as the global neighborhood. Seek a way to make a change however small it may be. Where do you sense the Lord might be calling you to make a difference this week?

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the October 22/23 Bulletin

"Everything is interconnected, and that genuine care for our own lives and relationships with nature is inseparable."(Laudato Si) Caring for our common home is our responsibility both physically and mentally. How? Eat nature's foods, get proper rest, exercise both our bodies and our minds and fill our spirit with prayer: thus we ARE caring for Creation. We as humans are an integral part of Creation. How we care for our own well-being is a vital way of caring for God’s Creation.

CURSILLO WEEKENDS FOR MEN AND WOMEN: Apply Now.

Men's Weekend: October 27-30
Women's Weekend: November 17-20

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with self, Christ and others. It is three days of joyful living and sharing, experiencing and learning a simple method to know God better and develop more fully as a Christian. The purpose of the weekend is to provide the tools for daily Christian living. Cursillo begins on a Thursday evening and ends Sunday evening.

During the three days, participants hear talks given by priests, deacons and lay persons, and may participate in discussion with others in small groups. The Eucharist is celebrated each day, and there is time for personal prayer and reflection, Sacrament of Reconciliation and fellowship. The weekend reviews the basics of Catholic faith with an emphasis on how you may live it more effectively in your own life.

Since each person’s circumstances in life are different and each has a unique relationship with God, the Cursillo weekend is a deeply personal experience and, as such, can’t be fully described. It must be lived and experienced first-hand to appreciate.

For more information or to download the application: https://www.rcdony.org/evangelization/cursillo.html
If you have questions, or would like to be sponsored, please contact Michael Neaton, the pre-cursillo coordinator at neatonmichael@yahoo.com
