NATIONAL VOCATION WEEK: November 5-11
Attention all pastors, catechists, principals

Bulletin Notice:
“The way Jesus shows you is not easy. Rather, it is like a path winding up a mountain. Do not lose heart! The steeper the road, the faster it rises towards ever wider horizons.” (St. John Paul II). Jesus did say, “My yoke is easy; my burden is light." As we celebrate National Vocation Week, November 5-11, the Church takes this opportunity to reflect on the call to holiness given to us at the time of our Baptism. We believe, as Catholics, that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, others to the consecrated life or to live as generous single people. As we live our own vocations faithfully, let us encourage and teach our young people how to discern God’s call. Let us pray for the children, grandchildren, students and friends to be open if God calls them to priesthood or consecrated life.

Prayers of the Faithful:
- During National Vocation Awareness Week, we pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, we pray to the Lord.
- For Catholic educators, that they will inspire students to remain open to God’s call for their lives, we pray to the Lord.
- That young men and women from our (parish school, religious education program) will respond to the Church’s tremendous need for priests and religious men and women to live the consecrated life, we pray to the Lord.
- That Christian parents, as they live their own vocations to marriage, will encourage their children to consider becoming priests, brothers or sisters, we pray to the Lord.
- That seminarians receive the graces they need to become holy priests who speak the truth with love, we pray to the Lord.
- For all priests and religious men and women who have served our (school, parish, religious education program), both living and dead, we pray to the Lord.

Prayer
God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as priests, deacons, consecrated persons, and married men and women. Send your Holy Spirit to help others to respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth and young adults. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAY WITH THE HEART OF A SAINT: Friendship Group: Journey Closer to God

Description: Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom. Father Mike Warren, OMV will talk with us about the book "Praying with St. Augustine," by Sara Park McLaughlin, and answer your questions.

For years, there have been no books of St. Augustine’s prayers available. Finally, in this treasure trove, you will find select prayers from his works — some of the most potent prayers ever composed. As you read the innermost thoughts of the greatest Church Father, you will be transported in time and learn how to pray with the heart of a saint. St. Augustine’s timeless words will help you encounter the “Beauty of ancient days, yet ever new” face-to-face and experience the relationship between praying and believing.

These precious gems are uplifting and accessible to all. Covering a range of topics and styles, they include praise and petition for health, docility, forgiveness, restoration, and salvation.

Offering these magnificent prayers will ready you to behold glimpses into the mystery of God. St. Augustine will teach you:

*The three valuable lessons Jesus taught us about prayer
*The two things always to pray for and how to pray always
*Ways to kindle virtues on the road to sanctity
*How to deepen your love for and devotion to God
*Line by line wisdom on praying the Our Father

St. Augustine taught that prayer makes you ready to receive God’s blessings. As you pray with St. Augustine, be prepared to be blessed!

The book is available at sophiainstitute.com

To sign-up for the Friendship Groups, here is the link: https://mailchi.mp/sophiainstitute/friendship-groups
Once you have signed up, you will receive updates, including the Zoom link and discussion questions, about a week prior to the meeting.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did You Know…a Safe Adult needs to understand that if a child tells them they have been hurt, or if they suspect a child is being hurt or is unsafe, they need to act in the best interest of the child. It is an adult’s responsibility to protect children. They can help by listening carefully to what the child tells them, telling the child they believe them, being aware of uncomfortable feelings and controlling their own emotions if a child discloses abuse, and acting right away to help the child. For more information, contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the October 29 Bulletin

What about those leaves? A tip from mother nature: whatever comes from the earth goes back to the earth. Instead of raking and bagging those leaves for the landfill the *Arbor Day Foundation suggests shredding them into small dime-sized pieces by running over them with your lawn mower. When shredded and spread across a landscape, dead leaves infuse the soil with more than a dozen vital nutrients making them much more effective than synthetic fertilizers.
