NFP AWARENESS WEEK JULY 23-29, 2023:

NFP Awareness Week, an annual educational campaign of the USCCB, invites everyone to discover the wise design of God for sexuality and married love. The Natural Family Planning Office sends posters and educational materials to all parishes; additional copies are available upon request. Pastors and homilists: homily notes and suggested prayers of the faithful can be accessed by clicking HERE.

"MARRIAGE, ONE FLESH GIVEN AND RECEIVED." The USCCB's theme for Natural Family Planning Awareness Week highlights the close connection between the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Marriage. This connection invites us all to open our hearts to the mystery of life-giving love that is the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, a mystery that is echoed in the gift of their bodies that spouses make to each other in marriage. God has designed this gift to be both life-giving AND love-giving. Alone among family planning methods, NFP honors God's design, "...respects the bodies of the spouses, encourages tenderness between them, and favors the education of an authentic freedom" (Pope Francis, THE JOY OF LOVE, 222). To hear from couples who have experienced the joy of this truth, go to www.rcdony.org/nfp. To learn more, please contact the NFP Office, apietropaoli@rcdony.org or at 518-483-0459.

PLANNED GIVING: Buy a New Life Insurance Policy

Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by taking out a life insurance policy and name our parish, Catholic school, the Diocese, a Mission Project of the Diocese or a Ministry/Program of the Diocese as beneficiary.  If you name any of the above as owner and beneficiary, the premiums you pay will be deductible on your income tax.  It’s a way to make a large gift on the “installment plan.” Contact Scott Lalone at the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org  for further information.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did You Know…the most common lure used by child molesters is the Affection Lure. It is used both offline and online to exploit unsuspecting youngsters in need of love and attention. Most victims of abuse are befriended and “groomed” over a period of hours, days, weeks, months, or years. Child molesters have repeatedly admitted that when there is a physically or emotionally absent parent in the picture, it makes the child more vulnerable to grooming and abuse. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the July 8/9 Bulletin

In “Caritas in Veritate”, Pope Benedict XVI states “Purchasing is always a moral - and not simply an economic –act.” When we purchase from a local farmer instead of a large food chain, that is a moral act. Farmers Markets are opening up all around us. Let’s visit them, purchase fresh foods while making a moral decision to support our neighbors!

Soil, water, mountains: everything is as it were, a caress of God.”(Dr. James Nolan in Catholic Rural Life magazine Spring 2023) During these summers days let’s not miss out on the ‘caress of God’ hidden in the beauty of nature all around us.
