PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY: Last Sunday of September

Priesthood Sunday celebrated the last Sunday of September (note change of date).

Priesthood Sunday was begun by the National Federation of Priest Councils in 2001 to honor the priests in the U.S.  It has been celebrated annually on the last Sunday of October.  In recent years, the date for celebrating National Vocation Awareness week was moved to the full first week of November.  In order not to celebrate both events so close together, Priesthood Sunday will now be celebrated on the last Sunday of September.  This year Priesthood Sunday will be September 29, 2109.  Promotional materials will be distributed in late July.

NFP AWARENESS WEEK JULY 21-27:

NFP Awareness Week, an annual educational campaign of the USCCB, will be observed July 21-27. This year's theme--LOVE, NATURALLY!--invites everyone to discover the wise design of God for sexuality and married love. Once again, the NFP Office is mailing posters and educational materials to all parishes, with additional copies upon request. We appreciate your help in promoting this effort.

Following are links to intercessions, homily helps, and additional bulletin announcements.

NFP AWARENESS WEEK, July 21-27 invites everyone to discover God's wise design for married love. In The Joy of Love (222), Pope Francis writes that natural methods "are to be promoted, since these methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom." Couples who choose Natural Family Planning discover these benefits for themselves! To hear a personal account, go to rcdony.org/nfp  and click on "One Couple's Story." 71ST ANNUAL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PILGRIMAGE: A day of family prayer and summer enjoyment

On Sunday, July 21st Knights of Columbus, families and friends from throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg will participate in the 71st annual pilgrimage to St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle LaMotte, Vermont. The pilgrimage begins with the celebration of a 12:15 PM Mass by Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley. Following Mass, Bishop LaValley will join the pilgrims for a picnic lunch on the shrine’s beautiful grounds. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at 3:00 PM.

All pilgrims are invited to the picnic lunch and if practical asked to bring a dish to share. The Knights of Columbus will provide hot dogs, michigans, hamburgers and beverages. Lunch is also available in the shrine’s cafeteria.

Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, only a few miles from the Rouses Point Bridge, the St. Anne’s Shrine’s religious history dates to 1666 when the French erected a fort and chapel on the site. The chapel was blessed in 1893 and a beautiful statue of St. Anne, the mother of Mary, was erected.

NORTH COUNTRY CURSILLO: Consider Participating in a Cursillo Weekend

Cursillo is a means to help Catholic Christians realize the depth of God’s love for each of us and the beauty of our Catholic Faith. It provides a simple method to help one develop and grow in Faith and better live the daily struggle of the Christian life.

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with Christ, others and self. Cursillo means “short course” and consists of talks given by priests and lay persons with participation in small group discussions.  Weekend participants also share the Eucharist, sing, pray and fellowship together.

North Country Cursillo of the Ogdensburg diocese is planning to hold two Cursillo Weekend events this fall.  These weekends will be held for men on Nov 21-24, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg and for women on December 12-15, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the July 27/28 Bulletin)

Environmental Stewardship Tip for Summer:
Looking for a natural week killer that keeps weeds under control while protecting the soil and water from contamination? Try this one: 4 cups white vinegar; 1/4 cup salt and 1 tsp. liquid soap. Combine ingredients in a spray bottle and spray the weeds at the sunniest time of the day for best results. Spray carefully. This stuff can’t tell a flower or vegetable plant from a ‘weed’! This recipe and for many other recipes: search for “homemade weed killer.”

Environmental Stewardship Tip for Summer:
According to world top scientists the greatest human contributor to carbon emissions is refrigeration.
(Drawdown, Ed. Paul Hawkins 2018) Turning the air condition and freezer a few degrees less cold this summer can reduce the carbon emission in our atmosphere that affects change in climate.
