DAY OF PRAYER FOR LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN: January 22nd Day of Prayer and Fasting

The over 56 million abortions since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”: “In all the Dioceses of the United States, January 22 shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.” As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer and fasting. Another way to take part is participating in special events to observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. If you are unable to participate physically, please pray for those who are traveling to Washington DC to March for Life. Thank you for your prayers. Resources are available here: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/resources/january-22-day-of-prayer.cfm

RESPECT LIFE COLLECTION: January 26/27

The weekend of January 26/27 is the annual Respect Life Collection. Last year twenty-one grants were awarded which benefited those working to build a Culture of Life in our diocese. It's important with this year's legislative climate that we provide alternatives to abortion and help to educate the next generation. The collection provided funds for 7 Gabriel Projects, Plattsburgh Crisis Pregnancy Center, Birthright, Right to Life affiliates, 4 pilgrimages to the DC March for Life (two high school, one college and one family bus), 3 Pro-Life County Fair Booths as well as other pro-life efforts.

Grant applications are online at the Respect Life Office website: https://www.rcdony.org/pro-life/respect-life-grant.html . The deadline for this year's application is February 28th. Thank you for your generosity.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ACT FACT SHEET: Codifying Roe V Wade Myth

The NYS Catholic Conference has provided a fact sheet explaining why the proposed Reproductive Health Act is not merely codifying Roe V Wade. RHA must be examined not only for what it would newly enact into law, but also for what it would repeal from current law. Please contact your representative soon. The Senate plans to pass it quickly in 2019. For more information see: https://www.nyscatholic.org/2018/01/abortionexpansion/ and https://www.rcdony.org/pro-life.html
