SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did You Know…here are some steps to take if a child discloses an allegation of abuse: (1) Listen to them – limit questions to what, when, where, who; let them share in their own way; (2) Affirm them – let the child know they are brave for sharing, that you hear and believe them; (3) Support them – let them know you are there to help but do not make promises of confidentiality; (4) Document their disclosure – write down any exact quotes from them that may help authorities later, but don’t do this in front of them; (5) Report any suspicion of abuse to the proper authorities – as soon as possible, when the child is with another safe adult, make a report to Child Protection Services.  By listening well and reporting, you can be a part of the process to help survivors and allow the child the opportunity to begin to heal. For more information, contact the Safe Environment Office at (315) 393-2920.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

for the February 4/5 Bulletin

Pope Benedict XVI’s theme for World Day of Peace in 2010 was “If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation.” He notes “Creation is the beginning and the foundation of all God’s works,” and its preservation has now become essential for the pacific coexistence of mankind. What can I do as a responsible steward this week to ‘protect’ the well-being of the nature world that all life depends upon? https://www.usccb.org/.../war-and-peace/2010-world-day-of-peace-quotes
