ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
(for the August 12/13 Bulletin)
Pope Francis suggests that once we start to think about the kind of world we are leaving to future generations, we look at things differently. We realize the world is a gift which we have freely received and must share with others. "We can’t view the world ina purely utilitarian way – geared only to our individual benefit. Intergenerational solidarity is not optional, but rather than basic question of justice. The world we have received also belongs to those who will follow us."
NEW
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
(for the August 19/20 Bulletin)
Water supplies used to be relatively constant, but now in many places demand exceeds the sustainable supply, with dramatic consequences in the short and long term” (Laudato Si # 24). We are very fortunate to live in the North East. This summer has been very wet for most; however, farmers are still feeling the effects of the drought last summer. Being more conscious of water consumption such as taking shorter showers, shutting off the water while you brush your teeth, and using gray water (water collected from shower, washing dishes, etc.) to flush your toilets will conserve water. The earth is covered by nearly 70 percent of water, however only 2.5 percent of it is fresh and only 1 percent of our fresh water is accessible, much of it is trapped in glaciers and snowfields.

PLANNED GIVING: Give Your House and Continue to Live There
You may want to make a major gift to our parish. Why not consider real estate: This is called a life estate gift. This simply means that you give a piece of real estate, such as your residence, to our parish, obtain a charitable income tax deduction and retrain the right to live there as long as you want. This arrangement removes the property from you estate and relieves your executor from having to dispose of your home at your death. Contact Scott Lalone at the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org for further information.
