PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY: Last Sunday of September

Priesthood Sunday celebrated the last Sunday of September (note change of date).

Priesthood Sunday was begun by the National Federation of Priest Councils in 2001 to honor the priests in the U.S.  It has been celebrated annually on the last Sunday of October.  In recent years, the date for celebrating National Vocation Awareness week was moved to the full first week of November.  In order not to celebrate both events so close together, Priesthood Sunday will now be celebrated on the last Sunday of September.  This year Priesthood Sunday will be September 29, 2109.  Promotional materials will be distributed in late July.

EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH: October 2019

In October, we celebrate Extraordinary Missionary Month as requested by Pope Francis. The theme will be Baptized and Sent: The Church of Christ on Mission in the World. Leading up to the celebration, the North Country Catholic, as well as Diocesan Social Media, will feature occasional columns written by religious and clergy reflecting on their work in the missions, such as Peru, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

Also, the Mission Office and the Office of Evangelization is planning a discussion panel at Amyot Hall in Norfolk for October 24 to speak about the Missionary works originating in our Diocese.  Details will be shared in eNotes as they become available.

For additional resources, Missio, the website of the Pontifical Mission Societies has created a resource page with background information, catechetical resources, prayer resources as well as information about Missionary Witnesses.  These resources can be found at https://www.missio.org/resources.aspx .

NORTH COUNTRY CURSILLO: Consider Participating in a Cursillo Weekend

Cursillo is a means to help Catholic Christians realize the depth of God’s love for each of us and the beauty of our Catholic Faith. It provides a simple method to help one develop and grow in Faith and better live the daily struggle of the Christian life.

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with Christ, others and self. Cursillo means “short course” and consists of talks given by priests and lay persons with participation in small group discussions.  Weekend participants also share the Eucharist, sing, pray and fellowship together.

North Country Cursillo of the Ogdensburg diocese is planning to hold two Cursillo Weekend events this fall.  These weekends will be held for men on Nov 21-24, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg and for women on December 12-15, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the September 7/8 Bulletin)

“Every creature is thus the object of the Father’s tenderness, who gives it its place in the world.” Tip for Fall: Harvest season is the perfect time to celebrate our Creator’s tenderness in flowers, lakes, streams, trees, birds, bees, butterflies, fresh fruits and veggies and in your own precious self! Take time to celebrate these gifts. Be kind to your health and to your local farmers and buy local produce.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

(for the September 14/15 Bulletin)

Treat the earth as if your life depends upon it. Genesis 2:15 Tip for the week: REFUSE to accept Styrofoam from restaurants or convenience stores. Fill your travel mug when possible. Eliminate single-use plastics and use re-usable items or biodegradable alternative.

PLANNED GIVING: Buy a New Life Insurance Policy

Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by taking out a life insurance policy and name our parish, Catholic school, the Diocese, a Mission Project of the Diocese or a Ministry/Program of the Diocese as beneficiary.  If you name any of the above as owner and beneficiary, the premiums you pay will be deductible on your income tax.  It’s a way to make a large gift on the “installment plan.”

These are parish and other local events that may be of interest to your parishioners. If you would like to share them in your parish bulletin, you can simply cut and paste the text under the "Description."
