PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY: Last Sunday of September

Priesthood Sunday celebrated the last Sunday of September (note change of date).

Priesthood Sunday was begun by the National Federation of Priest Councils in 2001 to honor the priests in the U.S.  It has been celebrated annually on the last Sunday of October.  In recent years, the date for celebrating National Vocation Awareness week was moved to the full first week of November.  In order not to celebrate both events so close together, Priesthood Sunday will now be celebrated on the last Sunday of September.  This year Priesthood Sunday will be September 29, 2109.  Promotional materials will be distributed in late July.

FUN, FAITH AND ECOLOGY: Leadership Retreats for youth ages 12 to 17

This year the Youth Department has put together 3 wonderfully unique opportunities for young people aged, 12 to 17 to learn, have fun and become empowered to be “Shepard’s of the Earth.” Each location will offer a different opportunity for young people to engage nature, each other and their faith. Youth are encouraged to attend any or all of the following retreat days.

September 7th - Beaver Camp

September 14th - The Wild Center

September 28th - Ausable Chasm

NORTH COUNTRY CURSILLO: Consider Participating in a Cursillo Weekend

Cursillo is a means to help Catholic Christians realize the depth of God’s love for each of us and the beauty of our Catholic Faith. It provides a simple method to help one develop and grow in Faith and better live the daily struggle of the Christian life.

A Cursillo Weekend is an encounter with Christ, others and self. Cursillo means “short course” and consists of talks given by priests and lay persons with participation in small group discussions.  Weekend participants also share the Eucharist, sing, pray and fellowship together.

North Country Cursillo of the Ogdensburg diocese is planning to hold two Cursillo Weekend events this fall.  These weekends will be held for men on Nov 21-24, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg and for women on December 12-15, 2019 at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the August 10/11 Bulletin)

Environmental Stewardship Tip for Summer: Did you know that the third greatest human contributor to carbon emissions is food waste? As much as one third of the food raised or produced does not make it from farm or factory to table. (Drawdown, Ed. Paul Hawken, p. 42) Take advantage of the availability of locally grown fresh fruits and veggies this summer that come right from farm to table. This helps eliminate waste, supports our local farmers, and treats us to God’s bounty.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
