History of the Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg

Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg replaced the annual Ogdensburg Peruvian Apostolate collection which supported our missionaries in St. Martin de Porres Parish, Mollendo, Peru. 2003 marked the closing of the Ogdensburg Peruvian Apostolate and the last summer for the appeal to directly aid our missionaries.

While our Peruvian mission has closed and the Peruvian appeal has ended, there is still the need for financial assistance to support and promote the pastoral work of the Catholic Church.

The Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg enabled us to contribute to the collection for the Church in Latin America which is sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Donations were also made in support of our North Country natives who are serving in mission territory in Africa, Nicaragua and Ecuador.

Due to our parishioners’ generosity, Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg has been to send funding, both emergency and routine, to the Horn of Africa, the Church in Latin America, earthquake victims in Haiti, bought a new truck for Mollendo, assist with vocations in India coming here to work in our Diocese, sponsor students at orphanages in Nicaragua, just to name a few.

Maybe we cannot be together, but together we can make all the difference."

The Diocese of Ogdensburg supports our missionaries with the Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg (MPDO) Collection.

The MPDO collection will help with a number of causes including:

●Support missionary priests and religious who work here in our diocese: Sisters of Chavanod, Archdiocese of Caceras, Philippines, The Herald of Good News

●Continued support for Church in Latin America

●Further our solidarity efforts in the Diocese of Latakia

●Provide for our former mission parish in Mollendo, Peru

●Help any other mission project throughout the world that Bishop Terry LaValley, deems appropriate as part of our evangelization efforts.

●Give hope and new life for so many in desperate and imminent need such as those impacted by flood, famine, earthquakes and war around our world.  It can serve as a source of funding in a crisis or emergency conditions.
