ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
(for the October 7/8 Bulletin)
Do you need that straw?
There are people who might need a straw, such as someone who has mobility challenges, but for many of us, it's a luxury — one we're really fond of. Americans alone use half a billion straws every single day. They seem to come with every drink, whether you want one or not, only to end up in the trash. From there, it’s all too easy for them to end up as more pieces of plastic pollution in our oceans. Plastic straws are actually one of the most common forms of plastic pollution in the ocean. If you don’t need it, don’t take it.

Pack your own lunch
Get a few sturdy containers of different sizes, and reusable bottle, and buy some bulk supplies at the beginning of the week. With the cash you will save from not buying heavily packaged convenience foods, you can have a healthy treat for yourself or for someone else every week. At the same time you will have used fewer resources and have less trash to send to the landfill. Source: 1,001 Ways to Save the Earth.
