SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE FOR MILITARY SERVICES, USA

Every three years, near Veterans Day, we have the opportunity to express our support and gratitude to Catholic military personnel through a second collection for the Archdiocese for Military Services. The weekend of November 5 and 6, 2016, we will hold this special collection for only the second time. Bishop LaValley asks you to promote this collection and requests your support and the support of your parishioners.
Your parishioners will not have envelopes in their normal packets. This makes pastors’ efforts critical. A bulletin announcement is provided for the week prior. Also, you should have received a mailing from the Archdiocese including necessary promotional materials.  See the Letter from the Chancellor HERE and addition Bulletin Announcements HERE.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the November 5/6 Bulletin)

Pope Francis writes, “Everything is interconnected, and that genuine care for our own lives and relationships with nature is inseparable.” (Laudato Si) Caring for our common home is our responsibility both physically and mentally. How? Eat nature's foods, get proper rest, exercise both our bodies and our minds and fill our spirit with prayer: thus we ARE caring for Creation. We as humans are an integral part of Creation. How we care for our own well-being is a vital way of caring for God’s Creation. (submitted by Faye Martin)

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the November 12/13 Bulletin)

Laudato Si' writing speaks often about the poor people who are living in poverty. Pope Francis stresses the plight of the poor. Living in poverty often encompasses disease and loss of self-worth. Take time to discover what is happening in your local neighborhood as well as the global neighborhood. Seek a way to make a change however small it may be. Where do you sense the Lord might be calling you to make a difference this week? (submitted by Faye Martin)

PLANNED GIVING:

When should I start thinking about my year-end gift? The best time to make these decisions is early, especially if you are considering gifts of stock or real estate. Having extra time for consultation assures you that there are no unintended consequences or last minute delays. It is best not to feel hurried. For further questions on year-end gifts or gifts of stock or real estate, contact Diocesan Development Office Executive Director Scott Lalone at 315-393-2920 or e-mail slalone@rcony.org.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS

Our aging religious need your help. Thousands of senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests in the U.S. spent years working in Catholic schools, religious education, colleges, hospitals and social services agencies – often for little compensation. Their sacrifices leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Many of these religious worked in our own Diocese. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide nursing care and more to our retired religious sisters and brothers. A second collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be taken up on the weekend of December 10th and 11th. Please give to those who have given a lifetime.

MONASTIC EXPERIENCE WEEKEND: for Single Men, 18-40 Years Old

St. Mary's Monastery, a contemplative monastery of Benedictine monks set in a forested area in Petersham, MA, is offering a Monastic Experience Weekend for young Catholic men aged 18 - 40 from November 4 – 6, 2016. Men will participate in the monks’ daily balance of prayer, work and study, and will have the opportunity to speak with those who have been called to this vocation. Spending these days with the monks and sharing their life will allow those who might feel called to the contemplative way of life – a life radically centered on Christ – to see what Benedictine life and living in a monastery is like.
If you know of any young men who may be interested in coming to this, please share with them the news of our weekend. The link to our flyer is on the homepage of our website at: www.stmarysmonastery.org. Simply click on
