ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the November 3/4 Bulletin)

Are your leaves falling yet? They can be rich nourishment for next years’ garden, if you have a simple compost bin. If not, check with your local village to see, if they have a common compost site where they bring your leave collection and where
you can pick up rich compose in the spring. Don’t have one; make a suggestion to create one. Committing to the purchasing of recyclable paper bags instead of plastic bags can reduce the amount of plastic that go to the landfill, and reduce the amount of oil needed to produce them.

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the November 11/12 Bulletin)

Where are the holes in your bucket? If you were filling a bucket, you would first look to see if there are holes in it. So, as we prepare to the cold temperatures of winter in our homes, our churches and places of business, the first question to ask is: ’where is the heat escaping , so that we don’t waste money and fuel by heating the outdoors. Why not call NYSEA or your utility company for an energy audit. They can provide many suggestions for improvements. Some audits are free.

PLANNED GIVING: Buy a New Life Insurance Policy

Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by taking out a life insurance policy and name our parish, Catholic school, the Diocese, a Mission Project of the Diocese or a Ministry/Program of the Diocese as beneficiary.  If you name any of the above as owner and beneficiary, the premiums you pay will be deductible on your income tax.  It’s a way to make a large gift on the “installment plan.”
