CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS AND CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY COLLECTION: June 10-11

Bulletin announcements

June 4 Bulletin - Week Before the Collection

June 10 and 11 marks the combined Catholic Communication Campaign and Catholic University Collection. The Communication Campaign connects people with Christ, here and around the world, through the internet, television, radio, and print media. One-third of funds collected remain in our diocese for local communications efforts, one-third helps the U.S. bishops spread the gospel message.

The last third of collected funds support the Catholic University of America. The Vatican and U.S. bishops established CUA in 1887 as a national resource to prepare the next generation of Church and national leaders. Our support helps young men and women like Carter Pierce of Heuvelton who attended CUA and will likely be entering seminary studies this fall for our diocese. Thank you for your support and gift!

June 11 Bulletin - Week of the Collection

Today’s second collection is for Catholic Communication and Catholic University of America. The Communication Campaign connects people with Christ, here and around the world. One-third of today’s collection remains in our diocese for local efforts, one-third helps the U.S. bishops spread the gospel message. The last third of the collection supports the Catholic University of America, established in 1887 as a national resource to prepare the next generation of Church and national leaders. Our support helps young men and women like Carter Pierce of Heuvelton who attended CUA and will likely be entering seminary studies this fall for our diocese. Thank you for your support and gift!

June 18 Bulletin - Week after the Collection

Thank you for your generous support to last week’s collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and the Catholic University of America. Gifts are divided equally to support communication efforts in our diocese, communication efforts by the U.S. bishops and preparation of the next generation of Church and national leaders at Catholic University of America. If you missed your opportunity and would like to give, visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections.

Saturday June 3 from 8am-4pm at SUNY Potsdam.

It isn’t just the responsibility of a select few on a hospitality committee. It requires each and every one of us. Please join us for a practical one-day workshop at SUNY Potsdam to learn how you can make a difference in how your parish community opens the doors to Christ and created a welcoming parish community. Cost for the workshop is $35 per person which includes all materials and lunch. Registration is required by May 29. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the June 3 and 4 Bulletin)

Pope Francis urges a new vision of dialogue for national and local policies: “Continuity is essential, because policies related to climate change and environmental protection cannot be altered with every change in government. Results take time and
demand immediate outlays which may not produce tangible effects within any one government’s term.” What worthy goals might be the foundation of stewardship for air we breathe and for water we drink? How might Catholic social teachings help
guide us?

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the June 10/11 Bulletin)

Pope Francis calls for a broader view of ecological stewardship: “Not everyone is called to engage directly in political life. Society is also enriched by a countless array of organizations which work to promote the common good and defend the
environment, whether natural or urban. Relationships develop or are recovered, and a new social fabric emerges. The world, and the quality of life of the poorest, are cared for, with a sense of solidarity that we live in a common home which
God has entrusted to us.”

NEW

PLANNED GIVING: Remember the Church in Your Will

As a Christian, you are a caretaker of the unique God-given gifts of life.  The way you conclude your trusteeship is the way you say “thank you.”  Many who wish to continue their Christian stewardship after death have provided for our parish in their Wills – through simple bequests and other life plans.  Ways to use your Will would include a percentage of your estate, a specific amount, the remainder of your estate, or specific property left to our parish. For more information, email slalone@rcdony.org.

MONASTIC EXPERIENCE WEEKEND, June 2-4: Petersham, MA.

Have you ever thought that your call is to do something bigger than yourself? Or wondered if God is calling you to a deeper encounter with Him? Have you considered transcending the ordinary? Come and see.
St. Mary’s Monastery is a contemplative Benedictine monastery of monks in Petersham in central MA. We live monastic life as described in the Rule of St. Benedict -- an ancient and proven way still vibrant in today’s world. It is a life of prayer and work within the monastery, radically centered on Christ, and structured around the Seven Hours of the Divine Office. We sing this great prayer in Latin using Gregorian Chant with the nuns of St. Scholastica Priory, our “twin community”.
June 2-4, we are inviting single men (18-40 years old) for an opportunity to experience from within the rhythm and balance of Benedictine monastic prayer and community life in a house of Benedictine monks.  Visit us at www.stmarysmonastery.org or www.facebook.com/stmarysmonastery. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Father Gregory at: monks@stmarysmonastery.org or at 978-724-3350
