FROM THE IT DIRECTOR: Tips on how to spot Spoofing Emails
Email spoofing is the forgery of an email header so that the message appears to have originated from someone other than the actual source (usually someone you know). It is often used to trick people in giving up information or send money.
Don’t trust the display name, always look at the from email address to make sure it is a real email that you know.
Check for spelling mistakes.
Don’t give up personal information.
Beware of urgent or threatening language in the subject line.
If you are not sure, call the person or send them an email to ask them. Don't reply to the suspect email, send them a new email to the address you have in your contacts.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Lent
(for the March 21/22 Bulletin)
"Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us . . . is burdened and laid waste . . . she 'groans in travail'"(Romans 8:22) We have forgotten that we ourselves are dust of the earth (cf Gn.2:7): our very bodies are made up of her elements; we breathe her air and we receive life and refreshment from her waters.” Pope Francis, Laudato Si’. What can I fast from that is contributing to the ‘burden’ the earth is carrying, so that all may feast on earth’s bounty now and in the future?

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...
Did you know…you cannot predict who will be a child abuser. Experience shows that most abuse is at the hands of someone who has gained the trust of the victim/survivor and his/her family. This grooming technique creates a false sense of security between the abuser and the abused. In the Diocese of Ogdensburg, all clergy, employees and volunteers whose duties involve contact with children must attend safe environment training to learn to identify the grooming techniques employed by predators. For more information, or to register for an upcoming safe environment training session, visit: https://www.rcdony.org/safeenv.html

PLANNED GIVING: Give Your House and Continue to Live There
You may want to make a major gift to our parish. Why not consider real estate: This is called a life estate gift. This simply means that you give a piece of real estate, such as your residence, to our parish, obtain a charitable income tax deduction and retrain the right to live there as long as you want. This arrangement removes the property from you estate and relieves your executor from having to dispose of your home at your death. Contact Scott Lalone at the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email slalone@rcdony.org for further information.
These are parish and other local events that may be of interest to your parishioners. If you would like to share them in your parish bulletin, you can simply cut and paste the text under the "Description."
