CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS AND CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY COLLECTION: June 10-11

Bulletin announcements

June 11 Bulletin - Week of the Collection

Today’s second collection is for Catholic Communication and Catholic University of America. The Communication Campaign connects people with Christ, here and around the world. One-third of today’s collection remains in our diocese for local efforts, one-third helps the U.S. bishops spread the gospel message. The last third of the collection supports the Catholic University of America, established in 1887 as a national resource to prepare the next generation of Church and national leaders. Our support helps young men and women like Carter Pierce of Heuvelton who attended CUA and will likely be entering seminary studies this fall for our diocese. Thank you for your support and gift!

June 18 Bulletin - Week after the Collection

Thank you for your generous support to last week’s collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and the Catholic University of America. Gifts are divided equally to support communication efforts in our diocese, communication efforts by the U.S. bishops and preparation of the next generation of Church and national leaders at Catholic University of America. If you missed your opportunity and would like to give, visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the June 17/18 Bulletin)

Pope Francis expresses the value of environmental stewardship within the introductory section of his Encyclical Laudato Si : Care for our Common Home. “Young people demand change. They wonder how anyone can claim to be building a better future without thinking of the environmental crisis and the sufferings of the excluded. Particular appreciation is owed to those who tirelessly seek to resolve the tragic effects of environmental degradation on the lives of the world’s poorest.”

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the June 24/25 Bulletin)

In the first chapter of his Encyclical Laudato Si - Care For Our Common Home – Pope Francis highlights the “tragic rise in the number of migrants across our planet seeing to flee from the growing poverty caused by environmental degradation.” The Pope states that “such migrants are not recognized by international conventions as refugees; and there is widespread indifference to such worldwide suffering.” Reflect on how it would feel to be fleeing your homeland, hoping to find clean water and dry land.

CAMP GUGGENHEIM PIE SALE RESULTS:

The rosary society of St. Andre Bessette parish in Malone, NY held a fundraiser for teens who want to attend camp guggenheim this summer. Pie tins were passed out to volunteer parishoners who like to bake. They were returned the next weekend on May 6th & 7th. After all masses, the pies brought in almost $1,400.00, even though there weren't enough pies for everyone. How generous they all Were. The teen applicants had to write a 300 word essay stating why they wanted to attend Camp Guggenheim this summer and what they expected to gain from this experience. Their parents/guardians were to send a note along as to why they would like to see their teen go to camp. Our parish priests were to judge the essays for us. We hope to do this again in the future. Donna Sauther, President, St. Andre's Bessette Rosary Society.  For more information dsauthter@twcny.rr.com.
