(for the July 16/17 Bulletin)

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Nature in all its wonder needs your help.

If you have read the encyclical "Laudato Si" by Pope Francis it can be overwhelming. You may think "What can I do?" Starting slowly and modestly with a topic that you feel passionate about is a step toward making a difference. Does it affect you personally, your state or region? Use your God given skills and gifts to become part of a movement no matter how small. "Nature is . . .God's art, impressed upon things, whereby those things are moved to a determinate end." Pope Francis, "Laudato Si'," (#80)

(for the July 23/24 Bulletin)

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: The Poor are Suffering more than others.

Jesus has taught us to care for the poor. By speaking on their behalf we can bring needed awareness. As well as a global issue, here in the U.S. one third of our population lives in households with perilously low incomes. What can you do in your community? Help at a Food Pantry or be conscious of not wasting food and water are just a couple of thoughts. "As people created in the image and likeness of God, entitled to self-respect and dignity, we are also worthy of the basic sustenance of life. Assisting poor populations in acquiring the necessities of life is not merely a suggestion, it is a moral imperative." from "Creation at the Crossroads" by Edward J. Ciuba. (pg 30)
