ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the June 30/July 1 Bulletin)

Did you know that around the globe there are five massive patches of marine plastic debris? One of these masses between California and Hawaii is the size of the state of Texas! Sea creatures eat or get ensnared in plastic debris. Plastics consumed by marine organisms, as well as the toxins they absorb from the water, accumulate up the food chain making seafood potentially dangerous for humans as well.  Consider purchasing reusable containers for food storage rather than disposable ones.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the July 7/8 Bulletin)

Summer is here!  Racheal Carson believes that “If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”  Is there some child you would like to take for a walk and help her/him discover the wonders of God’s creation this summer?

PLANNED GIVING: Capital Campaign

After prayerful reflection on the Diocesan Pastoral Vision and in preparation for the 150th Anniversary of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg (2022), Bishop Terry R. LaValley has announced that a Diocesan-wide Capital Campaign “It’s Our Church, It’s Our Future” kicks off this spring.

The It’s Our Church, It’s Our Future Capital Campaign will have a goal of $16 million, which will include $1.3 million for the 2018 Bishop’s Fund Appeal. Of the funds raised, 75% will remain at the Parish for its local needs such as programs and capital improvements. The remaining 25% benefits the entire Diocese supporting Retired Priests, Seminarians, Camp Guggenheim and St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Guidance In Giving, Inc. (GIG) is working with the Diocese on this endeavor and have begun the groundwork with some parishes participating in the initial Block 1 Phase. “It’s Our Church, It’s Our Future” will run in three blocks beginning with Block 1 running April to June. Parishes in Block 2 participate from June to September and campaigns in Parishes in Block 3 take place from September to November.
