OCP PARISH GRANTS PROGRAM: Attention Pastors and Parish Musicians

As part of OCP’s ongoing commitment to service, the provide direct financial assistance to Roman Catholic parishes across the United States through our annual OCP Parish Grants program. Since its inception in 2001, we have provided nearly $2.8 million in support of parishes looking to enhance their worship experience.  OCP is accepting applications through May 30, 2019 for grants to be used for liturgical and/or musical purposes.

The OCP Parish Grants program is a unique program of direct financial grants authorized by the OCP Board of Directors to assist parishes seeking to enhance the worship experience of their parish community. Grants are awarded annually, and the number and amounts given vary from year to year. It was established as a means of providing Catholic churches with financial support for religious, educational and charitable purposes.

Parish Grant applications are open to: Roman Catholic parishes located within the 50 US states that did not receive an OCP Parish Grant in 2018.  Recipients of a Parish Grant must use the money for liturgical and/or musical purposes.

Parish Grants are commonly used for:

Improving multicultural ministries with additional training and purchasing of bilingual worship materials
Providing online, digital or electronic resources to support liturgy preparation
Upkeep, repair and replacement of musical instruments, equipment and facilities
Purchasing music, hymnals and other worship materials
Attending or hosting musical or liturgical conferences or workshops

All applicants will be notified of the results of their application. Award decisions are at OCP’s sole discretion, and all decisions are final. Recipients of an OCP grant must comply with any and all applicable laws and regulations in connection with the grant and the funded project. In order to protect your privacy, any information shared with OCP in connection to the grants program will be used to process your application and will not be shared with anybody else, unless or except as authorized by you, the applicant. This grant program is void outside of the U.S. and where prohibited by law. Recipients must allow for public announcement of their award by OCP and be willing to share their experiences through OCP publications and other media.

Applications are only accepted online at www.ocp.org/parish-grants.  See the same link for more information or call 1-800-LITURGY (548-8749)

DAY OF PRAYER FOR LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN: January 22nd Day of Prayer and Fasting

The over 56 million abortions since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”: “In all the Dioceses of the United States, January 22 shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.” As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer and fasting. Another way to take part is participating in special events to observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. If you are unable to participate physically, please pray for those who are traveling to Washington DC to March for Life. Thank you for your prayers. Resources are available here: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/resources/january-22-day-of-prayer.cfm

RESPECT LIFE COLLECTION: January 26/27

The weekend of January 26/27 is the annual Respect Life Collection. Last year twenty-one grants were awarded which benefited those working to build a Culture of Life in our diocese. It's important with this year's legislative climate that we provide alternatives to abortion and help to educate the next generation. The collection provided funds for 7 Gabriel Projects, Plattsburgh Crisis Pregnancy Center, Birthright, Right to Life affiliates, 4 pilgrimages to the DC March for Life (two high school, one college and one family bus), 3 Pro-Life County Fair Booths as well as other pro-life efforts.

Grant applications are online at the Respect Life Office website: https://www.rcdony.org/pro-life/respect-life-grant.html . The deadline for this year's application is February 28th. Thank you for your generosity.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the January 26/27 Bulletin)

As Catholics we know January as Pro-Life month. This month in the U. S. has also been designated as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Did you know that some of the effects of change in climate, i.e. more frequent tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, rising sea levels, increase the number of people at risk of being for trafficked for sex or labor? In June 2014, the number of refugees worldwide exceeded 50 million children, women and men. Half of these refugees are children who get separated from their families during disasters. Source: “Human Trafficking and Environmental Refugees” Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking. Choosing one way to lower your carbon footprint like carpooling, combining trips etc. can have a ripple effect on reducing the causes of the change in climate. i.e. use less gasoline this week.

NEW

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

(for the February 2/3 Bulletin)

Do you know what a climate refugee is? The definition is: a person who has been forced to leave their home as a result of the effect of climate change on their environment. With extreme weather events – from floods and storms, to heatwaves and drought – and as temperatures continue to increase, climate extremes will worsen, sea levels will rise, and the world’s most vulnerable will bear the brunt. This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions. What can I do? Choose a way to reduce your energy usage this week. i.e. unplug appliances when not in use. They seep energy.
