ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
(for the December 31/January 1 Bulletin)
Did you know that Jan 1 celebrates the 50th World Day of Peace, when the pope sends his message to all foreign ministers around the world? Pope Francis’ message this year: “I pledge the assistance of the Church in every effort to build peace through active and creative nonviolence.” As a vital part of the Church, what creative act can I do in my family, my parish, my workplace, in ‘our common home ‘that will foster a more peace-filled place to live? In this new year may I not only sing ‘Let there be peace ….’ but choose one action to make it happen.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
(for the January 7/8 Bulletin)
Did you know that January 8-14 is National Migration Week? For nearly 50 years the Catholic Church in the U.S. takes this opportunity to reflect on the circumstances confronting migrants, including immigrants, refugees, children, and victims and survivors of human trafficking . Pope Francis calls us “….to look beyond our own needs and wants to those of others around us. With respect to migrants, too often in our contemporary culture we fail to encounter them as persons, but remain aloof to their presence and suspicious of their intentions.” How do I respond to the new person in my neighborhood or in our Country? Do I look with fear or with openness to the potential gifts they bring to our community? How might I be a welcoming presence this year to the stranger(s) in our midst?
