The following should help to clarify the difference between the Missionary Projects of the Diocese of Ogdensburg (MPDO) and the Missionary Cooperation Plan (COOP), both of which take place during the summer months.
Our diocese is split in half by deaneries:
West Side – St. Lawrence, Jefferson, and Lewis
East Side – Franklin, Clinton, Adirondack, Essex and Hamilton/Herkimer
Each year the MPDO and COOP run simultaneously, but with a different time frame and they are split every other year between the West and East sides of the Diocese of Ogdensburg. i.e.:
St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg participates in the MPDO Appeal EVEN years
In the EVEN year the MPDO Appeal takes place on the West Side. The date for this appeal is always the last Sunday in July. There are no speakers involved with this appeal. All materials are mailed directly to each parish from our SPOF Office.
St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg will participate in the COOP Appeal ODD years
In the ODD year the COOP Appeal takes place on the West Side. The date for this appeal varies due to the schedules of the Mission Speakers. Therefore the dates for this appeal ideally should take place anytime during July or August. Specific guidelines are mailed to each parish along with the name and address of the Society that will come to visit your parish. It is not necessary to take up two collections for this appeal even though your parish envelopes are dated for the last Sunday in July and your speaker may be schedule for another date or month.
