It has been a wonderful experience for all involved with the creation of our school garden. We have successfully planted tomato, pepper, squash, zucchini, and bean plants we started from seed along side some generous donations from members of our community such as cabbage, cauliflower that will give our garden a great variety. We also planted lettuce, radish, carrot, and onions directly from seed.
The students worked to grow healthy plants, design an attractive garden, and plant the garden. It has been amazing to see the dedication and aptitude students have for all aspects of gardening. Each student has come up with their own special projects over the summer; including creating a video, building a water collection and disbursement system, painting the garden beds, and creating a photo journal of the garden’s development.
Special thanks to St. Mary’s community member Jim Smith for his tireless and incredible effort donating and delivering topsoil for our garden. I am looking forward to watching the garden grow and seeing our students in action over the summer.
