RESPECT LIFE: Please take action now. Contact Your Senator
On January 16, 2018, Governor Cuomo introduced his budget bill which includes a dangerous abortion expansion proposal. If the budget passes, virtually all limitations on abortion will be lifted. This is urgent because the law requires the budget be passed by April 1st. Go to www.nyscatholic.org and let your senator know that you do not support this harmful proposal. And be sure to join the Catholic Action Network for alerts on other important legislation.

SUBSCRIBE TO THE NORTH COUNTRY CATHOLIC:
The annual subscription campaign for the North Country Catholic has begun. During the upcoming year, the North Country Catholic will be a critical source of information and evangelization as we continue to explore the pastoral vision which Bishop LaValley has announced for our diocese. In a message about the NCC, the bishop said, “I depend on our Catholic newspaper to serve as a critical means of communication as we move forward together with a mutually shared vision for the future of the church in our beloved diocese.”
Bishop LaValley has asked that the diocesan newspaper be welcomed in every Catholic home in the diocese. For more than seven decades years, the North Country Catholic has provided a Catholic perspective on the news of the day, kept us informed of all the important activities in our far flung diocese and provided spiritual enrichment through a wide variety of writers for all ages.
The price for a year’s subscription is $27 for Catholics who live in the Diocese of Ogdensburg. An out of diocese subscription is $30.
You may also want to consider becoming a patron of the NCC for $35, $50, $100 or $250 which allows the newspaper to maintain an affordable subscription rate for all.
For more information or to subscribe go to www.northcountrycatholic.org or contact the office at 315-608-7556

(for the March 10/11 Bulletin)
WHY FAST? This Lenten tradition of fasting invites us to eat less and enjoy it more. It can provide us more time to think about the elements of sun, rain, soil from which it came, and the hands of so many people who were involved in bringing our food from the fields to our table. Taking only what I need can be a way of reverencing my physical body, while being attentive to the needs of others and the preservation of the planet we dwell upon.
(for the March 17/18 Bulletin)
“Whenever food is thrown out it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor, from the hungry!” (Pope Francis) In the United States more than forty percent of food is thrown out, globally nearly 50%. (https://modernfarmer.com/2013/09/next-food-revolution-youre-eating/ ) Suggestion for a Lenten practice this week: be mindful to purchase and prepare only amounts of food you and your family will use. When it says “Buy one, get one free,” share it with a neighbor or the food pantry.
PLANNED GIVING: Bequests
Through Wills this enables you to make contributions that might not be possible during your lifetime. When you make a bequest, your taxable estate is required by 100% deduction for the amount of a cash gift or by fair market value of appreciated assets. For more information, contact the Diocese at 315-393-2920 or Email email@example.com.
